230 R-Line Tech different on DVLA

Hi folks.

I'm getting my 230 TSi R Line Tech delivered on Tuesday, and have now received the reg number. When I search on the DVLA site, it comes back as "Volkswagen Tiguan Sel Tsi 4Motion" and the VW App is reflecting the same, but only when entering my reg. Why could that be, as the order definitely states R Line Tech?

My saga is also still ongoing.....

In October, sent my V5c back as car was listed as an SEL.
I sent it with all supporting paperwork to show it was a 230 RLine.

Even tho it was sent recorded delivery, Post Office lost it........

So, I paid for a duplicate.....sent it back again with all the evidence......

Got it all back from the DVLA saying only VW UK (not the dealer) could provide info to drive the necessary changes.

So....sent it to the Dealer for them to sort out.

Dealer then received it and when I rang them, they said they had to get a letter from VW Uk.

Couple of weeks ago dealer called me to say they now had the paperwork and were sending everything to DVLA and I should get a new V5c soon.....

Still waiting......

To be honest, Im beyond fed up of this....this is totally an issue between VW UK and the DVLA....how is it so difficult to sort out?

Kugaman1, sounds exactly the same story I've been told. Thankfully I read about your V5C loss before I sent mine so sent it recorded.

Shame I can't borrow a copy of your VWUK form and change the reg! Lol!

I'll start again in the new year. It's just so frustrating that it's literally just one letter wrong stating TDI not TSI!!!

Had the same issue with my Tig, only realised 2 weeks ago.

I wrote a letter to DVLA and checked with them yesterday and said it'll be another 3 weeks before I get the correct details showing on the V5C.

I phoned up the dealer, to advise them of it, and got a free medium service for when the car had to go in for it's first service.

Hallelujah hallelujah!!!!

After almost 3 months of backwards, forwards and who knows what else, my new V5c has arrived and it shows the right car!!!!!

I feel like I've won the lottery....this has been a nightmare to get sorted, especially galling as none of it was my fault.....it's about bloody time VW UK and the DVLA spoke to each other and sorted this out....

Merry Christmas all, bah bloody humbug!!!😂😂

Just a further update.....

I didnt realise how big of a problem this is.

I have looked at 6 different 2019 230 Rlines online, just to check their registration details.

In EVERY single case, they are registered wrongly.

5 were registered as a 230 SEL.
1 was registered as a 240 R Line diesel!

This really is a big problem that is going to screw up the trade in values of cars in the future....

The DVLA corrected my entry after two goes and I got my corrected V5 back about 3 months ago. However, even though DVLA is now correct, when I enter my Reg No. details into websites to look at accessories (like tyres) or insurance, my car still comes up as SEL as first incorrectly registered. It seems these databases either don't get updated or at least, not regularly. So the problem potentially impacts on anything you buy where your car is identified by its Reg No.

Just a bit more on this subject....

A boy I work with has just bought a 1.5 RLine tech and when his log book arrived......it's listed as an SEL.

Looks like this issue might affect all Tiguan RLine tech models, not just the 230.

Found this on the VW site - seems to be a much wider issue
https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/need-help/need-help-faqs/owners/wrong-V5C-info

The wrong model is showing on my V5C.
If you bought the vehicle from a Volkswagen Retailer let them know and give them the incorrect V5C as they will need this to rectify the issue with the DVLA.

If you bought the vehicle outside the Volkswagen Network, please pop into your local retailer with your car as they will need to check the chassis details. You'll also need to take the V5 document showing that you own the vehicle, and two forms of identification, one of which must be photographic. The Retailer will then liaise with the DVLA on your behalf to have your V5 updated.

I had the same a decade ago with a Golf Match misdescribed as a Golf S.

Mine was the same, and its only a 2WD, 1.5 Evo! All the other details were correct. Soooo i gave the V5 back to my dealer and they "dealt with it". 2ish months later no V5, so i challenged them about it. Emails went off to VW and yesterday, after nearly 4 months I have a correct V5!!
I thought it was the dealer giving the DVLA some duff gen, but it looks like it might be VW. The V5 CANNOT be sent back to the DVLA as it's a section that cannot be changed. You need VW/Dealer to contact them to change it. I'd recommend getting done asap as I'm not sure what would happen if you tried to sell it/ crashed it, as it shows the wrong information.

A big concern for me is one of trade in values.

Even though I now have the correct v5c, any site I put my reg no into, still shows the car as an SEL.....
Which is worth a fair bit less than an Rline tech.....

Received number the 3rd V5C the other day.
Now driving a POLO SE EVO

DVLA have an open case for me but wont give me or my retailer (who has sent the info) any futher details -apparently Data Protection

So I've still not managed to collect the new car but today received the V5 from the DVLA and the model is listed as Tiguan SEL TSi 4Motion S-A. The car I'm collecting is a Tiguan Rline Tech TSi...... You couldn't make this up....

Anyone know who is responsible for correcting this?

your dealer would have registered it, get them to correct it otherwise you wont except the car as there is disparity. this can be a real pain otherwise. you will have a lot of trouble selling it.

Well my V5 has just turned up....

The model is listed as Tiguan SEL TSi 4Motion S-A. The car I'm collecting is a Tiguan Rline Tech TSi

Dealer said it will be sorted very quickly, not holding my breath. As I've not collected yet I'm thinking I'll say I'll withhold 10% payment [emoji848][emoji848]

With all the trouble I've had with the car being damaged etc before collection I'm wishing I never looked at the Tiguan. All joy of owning a new car has gone!

I cannot believe they still haven't sorted this problem out.

VW have developed an excellent way of p!ssing their customers off!
After todays announcement that people collecting 20 plate cars (diesel) cannot pick them up due to a fuel line fault, they still havent sorted out this v5c issue that has been going on for over 6 months!

Its a damn disgrace....

In just renewed my insurance, was a nightmare getting through it all and showing my car as an Rline, all the insurance sites still had it as an SEL.

Sort it out VW, your customer service is appalling.

I had this issue and contributed to the above thread.

Mines sorted now but was a NIGHTMARE to get sorted.

The further knock on is that taking out insurance/ getting trade in prices for the car is a nightmare, it constantly shows up as an SEL, even though the V5c was eventually corrected in December....

I put in a complaint to VW at the time, clearly they don't care a toss as this is still happening.

How many people didn't check their V5c and are currently driving around in wrongly registered cars.

To be honest all the enjoyment I should be experiencing of getting a new car has gone. I'm now beyond caring and I'm feeling let down by VW. When you spend £35k+ on a car you expect better, my experiences with Mercedes and BMW was fantastic and I just don't know what I'm going to do next.

This afternoon I was ready to tell them to cancel the order and I'd just walk away and lose my £500 deposit. Damage to the car, V5 incorrect, maybe I'm being emotional but I did expect better.
