Hello.
Past few weeks i've been really looking into a new Elegance. Looking for Petrol Tiguan to upgrade from my Diesel Passat - and now seems a good time with nice amount of equity in current car, before the a**e (maybe) drops out the diesel market..
However - the long lead times, uncertainty in price rises and risk of crossing into 40k additional VED has made me unsure this is the correct choice. I dare say the equity in the Passat won't be as strong in 12 months time also.
Additionally, buying new to keep for a long time might indeed be a false economy for me as Petrol perhaps falls out of favour the closer to 2030 we get as we're all encouraged onto EV's. Don't know. Wish i had a crystal ball - but too much uncertainty for me i think to pay the premium and a long wait for a brand new Tiguan.
So looking at low mileage second hand Tiguan's over the weekend.
Found a nice one that ticks the boxes. - Tiguan 2.0 SEL 4motion 180, 2018 model with 26k miles on clock.
Even better, with a cheap loan, i'd be paying less per month than i am with my Passat currently. Insurance only goes up a massive ÂŁ17 a year - even better.
With my Diesel Passat, i'm only every doing short journeys (hence the desire to get rid of it) so lucky if i'm exceeding 35mpg at the moment. And with diesel almost 20p a litre more expensive than Petrol at the moment up here, it might not be as outrageous as first thought re: fuel costs.
Waiting for dealer to get back to me - but was wondering if anyone had an old price and specification guide saved that i could look at, for the Tiguan around March 2018? Looking to see what the SEL came with. Oldest i have is December 2019.
Also - does this 2.0 TSI 180 engine have a timing belt or timing chain?
And lastly, anything i need to look at in particular on these engines / models when i go and hopefully have a look this week? I know not the most fuel eco models, but hoping it's a solid relatively trouble free? 4Motion compared to 2WD - is it worth it? Are there any additional servicing considerations for the 4Motion?
As always, many many thanks in advance.
