The way this has been thought through by our government, don't be surprised to see our road network eventually replaced by a massive Scalextric track.
That should just about satisfy the 'ecomentalists' 馃槒

Still surprised we have not seen anyone go big into solar powered cars, with technology moving on surely there must be a viable way to re-charge your cars batteries having the roof of the car as one large solar panel.
Good Question ….

Autocar discussion on potential car buying strategies to adopt between now and 2030
"… Autocar has decided to suggest a way forward for four different kinds of car buyer:
the early EV adopter;
the latest-possible EV adopter;
the one who is aware that EVs and charging infrastructure keep improving and would prefer to move at the ideal moment; and
the EV convert who seeks the best possible driving experience.…"

And no mention anywhere in that article about the use of mild-hybrid architecture !
It's obvious that the current government strategy on the provision of a suitable charging infrastructure by 2030 will be woefully inadequate.

Considering that a great percentage of people have no access to off road parking on their premises, then for them to provide charge stations on every residential street in such numbers to cater for the expected uptake by such time is quite frankly 'pie in the sky' The cost will be horrendous. And as well as this cost, there's the expense of a total upgrade to the current public transport system to cater for those 'unable' to make the transition due to the personal cost involved.

I'm sure all of what they wish can be achieved, and for the sake of the environment needs to be achieved, however I just don't believe that the timescales that have been set out are realistic.

Is Hydrogen, rather than electric, the future for big-engined machinery - JCB's Hydrogen Engine…

This particular way of using hydrogen is a fascinating subject, and to all intents and purposes would seem to be the ideal way to replace all of the existing commercial diesel/petrol engined goods/utility/ transport vehicles on the roads today, with eventually private vehicles going down the same route.

Effectively what is happening at the moment is, in order to combat world pollution, governments/politicians across the world have wholeheartedly endorsed electric powered vehicles and totally ignored the fact that their production is slowly depleting the planet of the elements used in their manufacture eg., lithium, cobalt, carbon and copper, not to mention the cost.

I think Bamford and the like who are working on the use of hydrogen in this way really need to be listened to in greater detail by those concerned in the industry, as it's looking more and more likely that pure electric is perhaps not the way to go in the long term sustainability of this planet.
