Hi All,

Has anyone had to top up the coolant yet. I just have and there seems to be a very small margin in the vessel between high and low. In the manual, it tells you to use distilled water but this is hard to get hold of and expensive. Of course, you have to use the VW coolant but I have used deionised water. I rang the local VW dealer and the service department said it is OK to use. Of course, distilled and deionised are not the same.

Any experiences?

The environment inside an engine really has no requirement for deionised water. If you were dealing with manufacture of integrated circuits or other specialised applications then I could see a need for it.
I would imagine there was a small airlock in your system from manufacture which has necessitated topping up- but if possible I would have returned to the dealer to have this done on a new car.
Best to keep an eye on the level in case there is a minor leak, rather than an airlock, which again should be investigated by the dealer.

I was given by my dealer a Litre of oil in a zipped bag, a litre of screen wash, and a litre of coolant when I picked up my new Tig last October. To date I have only used the screen wash ......
