Hi guys, I hope your all safe and well

Right as it's my birthday this Thursday, the wife said to me last week, is there anything you want for your birthday? I was like hmmm I wouldn't mind a pedal box for the car, and she had absolutely no idea what I was on about šŸ˜‚ anyway ordered one on Sunday night and it arrived this morning. As many of you are aware the accelerator lag is a nuisance, well it was for me anyway, I felt it was a bit dangerous in places like pulling out on roundabouts. I had done the carista throttle change which made a difference, but for me it still wasn't cutting it.

I fitted it this afternoon, took literally 5mins to fit. I thought why not put it in sport+ mode straight away just to see if there was any noticeable difference I could feel instantly. All I can say is wow! This has changed the car, it's like a different car altogether! I was pulling out of side streets and roundabouts with ease, it has totally transformed the driving experience of the car!

Just thought I would share my experience with a pedal box with you guys, as it's the best £215 I have probably ever spent on a car. This in my eyes is how the car should of left the factory like.

Anyway Just thought I would put this on here for you people who are frustrated with the lag, I know some of you are fine with it, but for me with 2 small children in the car I'd had some scary moments in the car (even my wife had some in it too)

Thanks for reading!
Stephen

I was thinking that šŸ˜‚ thankfully it's just had its service, I got the DTE one, got it from DTUK tuning. I was messaging Andrew from there about any doubts I had, and he replied straight away, which was good. To be honest I don't know what I was expecting, but quality of it is great, and I got the one with the app for my phone which was a great little feature. I also liked the idea of it remembering the last setting it was on so I can just forget about it now and enjoy the car.

The good thing about the pedal box is that if you change your car, Andrew will update the software FOC so that is compatible with your next car. (this is of course as long as DTUK supports your next car)

They have a vast library of supported vehicles so chances are it'll be compatible.

This is exactly what I did when changing from a GTD to a R-Line.

Yes you do have to inform your insurer as CNC says...

It's a modification so they need to be aware....some insures will not like it and will refuse to insure you and some will charge you a fee for the pleasure.

Others (like mine) have noted the pedal box but haven't charged me as it doesn't increase the performance.

You do have to inform your insurance company as it is a 'modification' from standard. Failing to inform your insurance company means you could potentially be driving without insurance.

Some insurers have refused cover as was the case here https://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/18262-insurance-company-refused-to-insure-the-pedalbox/
Interesting some said Directline insurance was not a problem and other said it was, no idea why it would be OK for some and not others unless its the old Age thing again.

Be interesting to know if this has any detrimental impact to your mpg?

I would say, on the road your never know as your not going to be able to reproduce the same travel each time and so many factors can make a difference, other cars, speed, braking ect ect all make a difference.

I think you have to base your decision on if you want a responsive pedal on your car then you may have to sacrifice a little on the MPG.

Hey Stevie, did you stick to your throttle change in Carista or revert back to standard?
I've just kept it the same mate
Nice one thanks mate :)

Would be interesting to see what make is best for price and functionality...I contacted TDI last month and they sell this one for £180, although they did say I could get a 10% discount which knocked it down to £162:

Yeah but those would factor in normal Mpg anyway, you get a feel for roughly what the car does, and the same again once the box is fitted. I would expect it to be less (as I found making the throttle change) just wondered if it was barely noticeable or quite a few mpg. Just interested is all, didn't get the 230 to care about mpg!

Yes for sure, anyone who owns the 230 Petrol or 240 Diesel and worries about the MPG has the wrong engine. ;)

Just talking with DTUK online and mentioned their competitors TDI tuning boxes and they said they wont price match but if i look online closely i can get TDI's box for £130!

The only reason I went for the dtuk was when I was looking at them I even looked at the tdi one, but the dtuk one looks better made if you know what I mean? The tdi one could also be great, but the thing that did it for me was the dtuk one is supplied normal or an app controlled version and I knew I wanted that because I wanted nothing on show. The app is so easy to use and it changes it instantly even back to stock with a touch of a button. I've actually installed it in that cubbyhole to the right of the steering wheel which I never use.

The Australian site for DTE quotes a 10% performance increase while the UK site does not mention it at all.

https://www.performancetune.com.au/pedalbox-2/
It does say the same on the UK DTE site, it actually claims up to 10% better acceleration https://www.chiptuning.com/uk/?___from_store=en

Edit: upon doing a Google search it seems many UK companies supply the pedal box from DTE, some state up to 10% acceleration increase and some don't. I assumed, wrongly it seems, there was only the one UK distributor.

This website, apparently the same distributor as I linked to above does not say anything about any performance increase https://www.chiptuning.com/uk/pedalbox.html

Another distributor here that says nothing about a performance increase with the DTE pedal box for £189 (although it does look to be a different unit) https://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/products/vehicle-tuning/dte-pedal-box-throttle-response/

This site the price is just under £200 https://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/tuning/car/volkswagen/tiguan-from-2016-onwards/2-0-tdi-4motion-150ps110kw-1968-ccm-14/#go

There also appears to be a difference in the price depending where you decide to purchase!
