I have fitted Eton F2.1 components as replacements for the factory front speakers, bought from a German dealer here (and delivered quicker than most stuff I've ordered in the UK !):

In 20 years of upgrading car audio, these are one of the most pleasing upgrades I've made. ÂŁ240 might seem steep but in this car and particularly running off the factory head unit they sound better than more expensive kit that I also tried (including my JL Audio C5-650's, which car audio nuts will know are very well thought of).

They are 2 ohm and very efficient, seem about 3dB louder than the factory speakers at the same head unit volume level. They also go lower, I would say they produce as much 40hz bass as some budget underseat subs I've heard, though obviously they don't hit as low or hard as a proper sub. They even make a decent effort at reproducing a 31.5hz test tone, though not at huge volume. With their silk dome tweeters and decent quality in line high pass filters they also have a much sweeter, more open and less tiring treble. The lower impedance doesn't seem to be a problem for the head unit and Eton sell them specifically for the Mk2 Tiguan so they must be confident in them.

If you are comfortable taking door trims off and drilling and replacing the rivets holding the factory woofers, go for it :)

I will probably add in a Match 5 DSP Mk2 amp/DSP shortly and upgrade the rear door speakers and build a custom sub in the space occupied by the polystyrene round the spare wheel...

Hey lads, so i've replaced my both front speakers with Eton's woofers + tweeters on my Tig II., and i have to say it's waste of money, i'm dissapointed. The sound improvment is very minimal, or better said, its identical to the oem VW speakers. I use to listen music at home on my Dynaudio speakers, and also on some Focal's, so no, im not deaf :)

Verdict: Just try to play with cars EQ, find your best sound with OEM speakers and spend your money on something else than on this Eton set.
Bit surprised by this. The character of the sound, and the frequency response curve, are definitely not the same as the standard factory speakers. Treble is much less aggressive.

Eton have a great reputation. They make some of the best replacement kit for BMW's as well as VWs. I've put similar sets in 2 VW ups and a Mercedes v class as well and all have had the same character.

If we're referencing home hi-fi I'd say the Etons have much of the smoothness and naturalness of my monitor audio gold 200 5g :)

What eq settings are you using ? I have bass +1, everything else flat, fader towards the front to the point where you can't really hear the rears from the front seats.

Out of interest, did you see who makes the original factory speakers in the process of removing them to do your upgrade?

Cheers,

Given that I was a little disappointed with the sound in my Tiguan, I upgraded to the Eton front speaker set this week. I'm impressed.

My other half had commented that the standard OEM speakers sounded a little tinny, I'd agree. The mid range sounded a little muddy and the high frequencies were harsh. The Eton on the other hand are very nice. Bass seems to go a bit lower - when listening to electronic music boomy 808's sound clear and well defined. The top end is clear. I feel like I can hear individual instruments rather than the mush I was listening to before.

I'm not sure that this will lead to tother upgrades. I'm not in the habit of playing music very loud, and don't feel the need for more bass, so this might well be it for my upgrades right now.

Thanks to carib230sel for the original post, and to others who have shared their experiences. As this is my first foray into upgrading car audio it wasn't something I took lightly so I appreciate others having shared their findings.
