I am due a DSG service as the car will be 4 years old but my mileage will only be approx 20k
My gearbox is a DQ500
The interval is 40K regardless of age.

Yes, mine went in for its 4 year service back in March when it had about 14k miles on the clock. I asked dealer about DSG service but they said not until 40k miles.

I've seen lots of post on forums and Facebook etc recently of DSG Tiguan's with the dreaded error on the screen saying either "don't drive", or gearbox in reduced mode (or something like that), and they all seem to eventually point to a failed Mechatronic unit in the gearbox. Obviously the amount of failures posted makes it look like it's an epidemic of failures, but taken against the number of Tiguan's sold, is still possibly quite small. Still, it's a bit worrying nonetheless even though the car is still in warranty.

However, nearly every screen shot I've seen of the dash error, seems to be on a diesel vehicle (I've yet to see one on a petrol unit). My question is, I'm sure this error has affected user on this forum as well, so thought we might get a sample size and see if there's a pattern developing with engine type and size ?

Anyone ?
Just had the mechatronic failure on my 2017 Tiguan Diesel 4 wd. 43k miles. In warranty so in to vw for 10 days. Unit delivery is 7-10 days.

2019 150PS Diesel 26000 miles DQ381 failed no even gears diagnosed mechatronic failure thankfully replaced under warranty.

We have a five year old Tiguan R-line petrol. 45.000 miles. Emergency mode came on in November. VW garage have been less than helpful. Left with no choice but to sell. Lovely family car. Will be greatly missed. But never again will we buy from VW.

I have a 2017 VW Tiguan Deisel Bluemotion DSG 4motion with 50k miles. FSH and last August the dreaded gearbox warning came on during family holiday. Limped home and been in the garage 5 times since while they try to diagnose. Finally concluded Mechatronic failure so just had it fixed, cost ÂŁ1500. Not impressed and would not buy VW again as my last car was 4x4 Toyota and did over 150k miles no issue.

Hi, we sold it to a Nissan dealership, we were honest with them about the issue. They were able to fix it to re-sell. So they were sending off to the auctions straight away. They offered a far better price than the vw dealership. And got a similar spec car.
Thanks for your response. No worries, we’ve literally just bought a Tiguan r line 19 plate and same mileage 2 week ago. It broke down before we even got home from the dealership. The dealership are finding the repairs for the mechatronics but we are in 2 minds whether to keep it or not!

You will have 30 days to change your mind and get a refund or replacement. If you agree to a repair then they have just the one opportunity to fix it or you would then still be able to reject the vehicle for a refund less a mileage reduction for wear and tear.

I understand that, my predicament is that it’s either good to go as it’s been fixed or I risk it happening again or something else serious happening 🤷🏽‍♀️

Well, that is the decision you have to make with any second-hand car. If you are happy with it then keep it but if the same problem recurs you would still be able to reject it as per Consumer Rights etc. If it's an Approved VW used vehicle then you get a 2-year warranty.

What dealership did you buy it from? Imagine if it’s the same car!?

Hope we find out.
That would be quite a story.
