New 2024 1.5 PHEV Tiguan Match. Had it 3 weeks and we have a Rolec EV wall charger (have had a Tesla for 3.5 years). Charger is a fit for the VW BUT the "Smart Charge" functionality has been sporadic (it usually sets up a scheduled charge between 12am-6am to fill the battery) and then yesterday our downstairs socket fuse tripped randomly and baffled us to which applicance it could be.
This am I went out to the VW and it's completely dead, nada. No charge and 12v dead.
OPened door manually to entry but nothing worked.
Called VW Assist who came out quickly - known issue is to charge you have to charge up and remove the charger IMMEDIATELY when battery is full, or it drains the 12V and sat too long you'll have a dead car. This is mental. So no cheap charging, no scheduled charging, no charging overnight unless you plug in and remoe super late or ssuper early, no charging whilst away from home etc etc. Utterly mental. The Tesla is a crap build but the charging tech works perfectly, ROlec app smart charge, it charges to the set level and once hit it just sits waiting for the lead to be removed. No issues in 3.5 years.
How have VW got this so wrong? Technician said a fix was being sought, would be a software update but wouldn't be over the air unlike Tesla, might have to go into dealership servicing dept for software update. Completely negates the reason we got the PHEV Tiguan......
