Electronic handbrake switch has broken, how easy is it to replace myself as main dealer want to charge £45 for unit and £90 to fit it for 10 mins work.
any advice appreciated.

I can't be sure with a Tiguan but on my 2010 Passat it is a 2-minute job. The switch is on the dashboard - pop it out from behind, disconnect it and re-connect a new switch and pop it back in. With the Tig I'd imagine you have to prise up the gear-lever surround and push the switch out from there.

to replace the switch you do indeed need to prise out the gear surround. You do that by prising it out from the front. Then once you have released the gear stick gaitor you have access to the underside of the console where you can release the button unit, as per the instructions below:
