Hi there - I have a diesel 67-plated SEL Tiguan.

Just now an error popped up on the dashboard saying 'Starter system faulty - please see a service centre', or very similar.

The car starts very well - even in very cold weather.

Do I need to worry too much?

I will take it in to my local garage but I'd like to know if this is urgent,

Stuart

Be aware these cars have Start Stop, and thus the 'starter system' is far more complex than a relay and starter motor. The starting is all controlled by the electronics (all you do when you turn the key is 'tell it' to start), and it monitors all sorts of things on the car. So in this context it could be anything, a dodgy sensor or switch.
It would need a diagnosis with a proper reader for VW's, which should indicate where the fault is.

Many thanks - I'll book it in with my local VW garage and see what they find.
