Storing the parcel shelf

I don't know if I am missing something, but I have as yet been unable to store the parcel shelf under the boot floor. I have followed the little picture stuck to the reverse of the shelf, but it just doesn't fit...

Anyone managed to store theirs?

No, the shelf just fits behind the seat, this is not my car so not sure if the seats had been moved or not. Seemed to be a bit more fiddly on this car than when I did it in mine, but is handy when carrying tall items.

Afternoon All,

I have a UK Spec R Line, 4 wheel drive and my parcel shelf fits under the boot floor.

The first couple of times is was extremely difficult due to the carpet being so new, it would grip as I tried to push it in.

But now I can slide it in and out within a few seconds. Perfect when I have the dog in the car.

I could not store mine behind the seat due to the dog guard I have installed

Please note as stated previously in this chat the plastic side storage dividers have to be removed.

Either side of the boot is two plastic inserts which can be pulled up to remove, when storing the parcel shelf these must be removed, I don't have any pics but someone in this chat has posted some a while ago

Actually broke one of the boot floor supports (I'd had the car for 3 hours... araldite needed!) when trying to get my shelf to fit in my UK spec 2wd 2.0 tdi SE Nav. It just would not go in! Parcel shelf now permanently residing in my basement...

I'm completely confused now!

I have a 2 week old 2.0 TSI R Line 4WD DSG. There is no way that the parcel shelf will fit under the boot floor. The wheel arches inside the boot make the space simply too small for the shelf even to begin to fit.

I'd really like to understand what the difference is that allows it to fit some R Lines but not others!

Vel, you and many others are also confused. I think the VW method as shown on label on parcel shelf, doesn't seem to work for many if any?

I have found an alternative way to load the shelf under the floor is by sliding the upside down shelf into the underfloor slots. It works for me so here is the link to the method I use, posted earlier.

Many thanks Tig66. Great detail shown in your post and photos. Much appreciated.

I'll have a wrestle with it when I get home tonight!

I was exactly the same, the first time I tried, I was like there is no way this is going to fit, but once you get the hang of it It does slide in, I will try and get some pics of how i do it tomorrow

Lift the boot floor and remove the plastic trims, then turn the parcel shelf upside down and feed the right hand side in first (this is the side with the smaller plastic trim)

Ensure you fold the small flap on the back of the parcel shelf, mine was really stiff at first and would not fold, then just slide back straight locating the left side as you do it.

Hopefully the pics will help

Thank you for the help Tigg66 and Cafera - much appreciated.

By following your instructions I was able to store the parcel shelf under the boot floor. It took a bit of persuading but eventually it went in!

Much better than having to leave it lying about in the garage when I load my bike into the car.

Glad to help!

The more you take it in and out the easier it gets

With a full load in the rear, you can store the Tig shelf behind the front seats, in front of the folded up rear seats - slide the seats forward to hold it in place. Works pretty well. Done this for a couple of long trips now. Better than my S-MAX where there was no way to store the retractable shelf.

I have spacesaver spare wheel and variable boot floor.

The parcel shelf will not fit under the floor because it is too wide to fit between wheel arches - I've tried more than once! It's a great shame as the shelf is a devil to store elsewhere.

As regards carrying things on top of the shelf, contemporary safety concerns would be unhappy about loose objects becoming missiles should a collision occur!
Have you tried pushing the ends of the blind inwards? The width of the entire item is not fixed.

Hi titanax, if you follow my link

This was a solution I found for my 66 reg Tiguan 2 back in 2017.

It's a tight fit but works for me and some others.
Just to revive this thread with a big Thank You! &#x1f44d-1f3fb;

I'd heard this could be done but was struggling - followed the pictures exactly, stiff at first but then it worked a treat. Means we can load the boot a bit higher and thanks to the carshades mentioned on the thread below the contents won't be visible to prying eyes.
