Looking for some diagnostic help guys, my Tiguan (2022 Elegance) is driving me batty with the traffic assist not available warning nearly everytime I turn the wheel.
I have disabled all the assists and re-enabled
Cleaned all the sensors, the badge, screen and the parking sensors
Switched the car on/off
Looked all over the forums including the US ones (couple of comments on there seem to blame the steering wheel?)

Next step will have to be the dealer (not looking forward to it) unless a more knowledgeable member can help
I'm an old git so not at my best with tech but as this is my 6th Tig I thought I was reasonably competant:cry:

Any help/guidance would be appreciated

Had this fault for 20 weeks now. Steering wheel been on ‘order’ for 16 weeks. At last enquiry the dealership said they’d been told to try a different remedy but they weren’t sure on details yet, and they have 70 vehicles waiting & most are waiting ahead of us🤬. Oh, and VW Customer services are an utter waste of time.

Been waiting 18weeks for my replacement and still no installation date I don’t think VW really give a toss

Having similar problems with 22 Tiguan R line which I now have had for just over 2 months. First 6 weeks, it a problem, and then warning started popping up more regularly. Have booked in with local VW garage for diagnostic over a day but having said that the service manager was aware of the problem as soon as I told him. Said it was either a software update or would need a new steering wheel which take several weeks to arrive. 2 interesting pints have come out if this. Firstly car was less than a years old when I purchased so wonder why the previous owner, (private) got rid of the car within a year and secondly, had the car for 6 weeks before fault showed, Washed the car for the first time after 2 months and the warning disappeared for a few days. So wondering if there is a connection between dirt on the sensors, camera, that it is over sensitive. End of the day though is very annoying!
my 2nd Tiguan, 1st was a blue4mothion, now gone to petrol 1.5 and haven’t decided if I miss the 4 wheel drive yet, despite never really needing it over the past 5 years.

If you haven't needed it over the past 5 years you won't be missing it and don't need it.

The steering wheel problem may take a while to show itself as the internals of the steering wheel can take a while to deteriorate from new. Hope you manage to get it sorted asap.

Yes mate it’s the steering wheel and confirmed by VW technician. The issue is that VW have ordered a replacement steering wheel back in Feb 23 for me and then had a call from them saying that VW have changed the design in some way and have to order the new design and is now on back order not expected for weeks!!
I had mine diagnosed as steering wheel needs replacing ordered Feb 8th I’ve just received my install date 27th Sept fingers crossed all will be good

I was at my dealers today for service and this TA issue, because it didn't show up during service and nothing showed up in diagnostic check they won't do anything.
Mine sometimes does it constantly and other days it doesn't do it at all, also got hit with the rear discs and pads needing changed, car has only 15k on it.

This does appear to be an issue with those that use their car very little, my guess is the more miles you do the more the discs and pads get used so 'clean' themselves a lot more which keeps them in better condition. My rear pads and discs lasted until about 85k.

The Tiguan is the only car I've had that produces much more brake dust over the rear wheels when usually it's on the front wheels that the pads shed the most.

I think it is something to do with ACC. When I was using it on motorway journeys there was a lot more brake dust on the rear wheels, like you say, more on the rears. It seems to use the brakes a lot more to adjust speed rather than gravity or engine braking. Stopped using it and fronts are now dirtier
Also since I stopped using it economy on longer journeys has gone up by 10% plus
Must look at some point to see if I can switch it to normal CC

We had to have discs and pads replaced all round at just short of 18k miles due to corrosion rather than wear. Garage told us this was partly due to lack of use during COVID plus car being driven and braked too gently (!) added to which we are right by the coast in rural Scotland so the ravages of sea air and salted roads take their toll. I now make a point of doing some more aggressive 'boy racer' style driving and braking when I remember.

Car has been into Garage today for diagnostic with some interesting results. I recently posted that after cleaning the car behaved for a few days before the intermittent problem returned. Slightly concerned it wouldn’t show up and the service Manager said they had just updated the software so would see if that fixed it. Upon returning, told a new steering wheel has been ordered. Apparently ,they have a guidance to how many times the fault has occurred and if it’s above a certain number, then a new wheel is needed. Mine had flagged 129 error codes, so “Passed”. The service manager said it is a fault to do with the touch sensitive pads on the wheel, which have replaced the previous push buttons. Despite negative comments on this change from various reviews, I like it, mainly due to spilling Orange Juice on a Merc I previously had which ended up with sticking buttons. Also interestingly VW are going to scrap these, so he says, and return to push buttons. No idea as to how soon the wheel will be and could be several months, but at least the problem has occurred during warranty!

I have a 22 Reg R Line Tiguan delivered May 22. In Sept 22 it was back in the garage because it had the "Travel Assist not available" error kept coming up randomly. They replaced the steering wheel at that time and it seemed to resolve the issue. Now, in the past couple of months, it's started with the same error again, intermittently, some days not at all and other days it's bleeping every few minutes, which is very distracting. Booked it into VW a few weeks ago and they said there were no faults stored and they did a software media update (because my sat nav & media had also been glitching) A day or so later, I'm getting new messages to say there is a software update available, so I'm wondering did they even bother doing the update.

I'm glad I found this forum, so I will be calling the VW service manager with my new found knowledge about this well known issue. I guess since they already replaced my steering wheel once, they are reluctant to do any further work.

It's so frustrating dealing with garages when they try to fob you off with these stupid excuses - I feel like they are trying to gaslight me when there is a problem and scaremonger me to do unnecessary work when there isn't even an issue.

I had a software update last Friday, the seconded one within a month or so so think the one your seeing now is just newer than the one the dealer did.

My Tiguan R had its steering wheel replaced under warranty yesterday because of the TA fault. I had also experienced an issue with the haptic buttons on the right hand spoke freezing on occasions. The new wheel is clearly a different design to the original so I'm hopeful that VW have re-engineered the bits that caused the faults.

I have to report that my local dealer has been excellent throughout and made no attempt to fob me off. I reported the problem when it went in for a service on 12 Sep 23 and the service advisor was very upfront about the problem, told me they had replaced steering wheels on a significant number of vehicles and that they had a number of steering wheels on back order for other customers. He also warned me that, as VW were struggling to meet the demand for replacement steering wheels, they were experiencing a 10-12 week wait for parts. The dealership called me when the part arrived, arranged a time that suited me and gave me a brand new Passat R-Line estate as a courtesy car.

As a side note: I have got used to using the haptic buttons and they are not as bad as some motoring journalists have reported. However, the Passat had real buttons on the steering wheel and they are just better....

The delay is due to the steering wheel manufacturer having to make replacement wheels for most of the VW group vehicles as well as Mercedes.

The steering wheels are made by PREH, who also make other components that are used such as the climate controls, drive mode selector etc

Hope the problem is now fixed for you, great that you had an excellent dealer to help you sort it out.

Steering wheels Preh - Automotive switches, switch systems, steering wheel and multifunctional switches.

Climate control Preh - automotive air conditioning, control part, control elements, software

Greetings, all! I have had the issue happen more frequent and when I took it in, the steering wheel had been replaced. I have gone to this specific dealership herein VIC, Australia and they have been great. The place where I bought it from is crap when it comes to servicing and warranty concerns. The service department is just useless. They have also replaced the right tail ligh for that RTError. So far, so good,in terms of warranty claims for the R. Annoying but VW is owning up to it. I hope that's the last of that error.

I have even reported the thread to try to get the attention of the Moderator - it would be a good thing to have it corrected as people use the Google search facility for problem solving and/or further info and this thread is a great resource.
