Looking for some diagnostic help guys, my Tiguan (2022 Elegance) is driving me batty with the traffic assist not available warning nearly everytime I turn the wheel.
I have disabled all the assists and re-enabled
Cleaned all the sensors, the badge, screen and the parking sensors
Switched the car on/off
Looked all over the forums including the US ones (couple of comments on there seem to blame the steering wheel?)

Next step will have to be the dealer (not looking forward to it) unless a more knowledgeable member can help
I'm an old git so not at my best with tech but as this is my 6th Tig I thought I was reasonably competant:cry:

Any help/guidance would be appreciated

Hello, yes I had the same like many others, but there is an answer.
I complained to my VW dealer and eventually got the answer, it’s the STEERING WHEEL.
i spoke to there head technician and he eventually and reluctantly advised me that the steering wheel has a fault. What that fault is I have no idea but after it was changed, which took a while, the problem has completely disappeared!
You have to bang the table and take no prisoners and then your problem will disapear.
Good Luck.

I've previous;ly posted on here about the same fault with the result being needing a new steering wheel. All fine and Dandy once fitted , or so I thouyght. After just over a year the fault has started to reoccur so popped into local dealership who have booked it in again next week. Fortunately it is still under the 3 tear warranty but just wondering if anyone has had the same reoccurrence and what the outcome was. A very helpful assistant did suggest it may be due to there being mud etc on the sensor as the car is a little dirty this time of year. I have washed the sensor thoroughly (VW Badge at front) and await to see if it makes any difference, though havibg a dirty car shouldn't effect any of the electrics?

Yes, that has also happened to me although not this winter as yet. When stopped wipe off the snow or sludge and re-start the engine and the warning sign has gone.

Here is a link to the latest Technical Bulletin from VW for Travel Assist Issue (28/08/24) https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2024/MC-11007395-0001.pdf

You would need to get the vehicle scanned to see if any fault codes exist and if they match the bulletin to see if it has returned as opposed to just being dirty sensor.

Had my steering wheel replaced a week ago!

My 2022 R line is booked in for Tuesday. Fortunately, still under the 3 year warranty but this is the 2nd time and had a new steering wheel around 14 months ago. Car pings 20 or 30 times on a shortish journey, 3 miles, so same fault as inally diagnosed. Uncertain, why this has returned as clearly I don’t want it reoccurring in another 15 months if a replacement steering wheel is the cause again, as it won’t be covered by warranty. Certainly don’t want to change the car, although this has put some doubts into my mind as whether to get shot of. Local VW garage have been helpful, but haven’t come up with a suitable reason why this reoccurred. I’ll update on progress when I know more.

There was a youtube video based in America that it was to do with the sensors in the steering wheel.
If memory serves, if the steering wheel was held in a certain position, the sensors flagged up a fault as they couldn’t detect anything and pressure caused the issue

I may be completely off the mark here, but its worth a search

Result from todays visit is I need an new, or another New Steering Wheel. The service gyt said it was possible a new one wasnt fitted last time and just a part had been replaced, unless the part numbers had changed. Anyway, booked in for next week and hopefully will sort this time. I'm apparently the 2nd person they have had who needed a 2nd replacement. Probably foing to take the A! extended warranty option once it gets to 3 years ans this will extend it for another couple of years, should I need a 3rd wheel.

Had same problem with my Tiguan 21 plate
Travel assist unavailable randomly pinging up.
Some days worse than others.
Had steering wheel changed and problem went away for 4 months then started again. Just had another steering wheel fitted!
Fortunately I had the work done under warranty.
Was told by a guy at VW that the problem may be due to the touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel. The latest models have now gone to push button controls so maybe he is right ?
Anyone else no anything about it?

Others may be able to confirm, but I seem to recall The Elegance has the same issue - with proper buttons on the wheel.

Hello, pleased you got it sorted. I had my steering wheel changed and like the problem disappeared.
As my car is now out of warranty I had my service conducted at a VW/Audi specialist who I have used many times before, and guess what it’s returned. As a normal service procedure they use a diagnostic machine and found no issues.
I called them again today and they have asked to take it back in to have another diagnostic done.
I’ll keep you updated.

Got it booked in for diagnostics on Wed. Service Advisor suggested I might need a 3rd steering wheel !!. She said she has known a few who have had a 3rd. She also suggested if I planned to keep the car maybe think about an extended warranty. I'll keep people posted after Wed's outcome. Incidently 2nd steering wheel was fitted in Feb 2024, she said maybe I'm unlucky

Update,
Car went in Wednesday, fault found and steering wheel replaced.Third one. Previous replacement was Feb 2024 so its lasted just over a year. Service reception said she had one customer who needed a 3rd replacement out of warranty, she said VW offered a goodwill offer of 50% on parts but the customers bill was still around ÂŁ600.
