Dealer is excellent, in fact, they game me my 3rd car without a request from me, and upgraded to a 190 engine with keyless and electronic boot. They evidently contacted VW who stumped up the extra £2000 for the unprecedented grief I'd had.
I was only telling my wife straight after I posted how good your dealer must be.
Apart from your present troubles, a great service.

Had a call from dealer today.

They think they've found the problem and it's something to do with the area that a wiring harness and air conditioning comes through the bulkhead, normally a grommet keeps rainwater running down there out but on mine it isn't doing its job. Half the dashboard has had to be removed to get to it apparently!

Well that's the gist of it anyway - the upshot is that a new part is coming from Germany, and they WILL also be fitting brand new carpets as they have said that even a decent vac and dry could leave areas of mould or damp undetected, which they don't want.

Parts arriving Friday hopefully - on Monday fitted and Tuesday a 'water test day' to make sure it's been fixed.

Interesting, the Tiguan I'm using in the meantime is a 150 manual and I'm getting 5-10 mpg better than on my own car. Being manual it still accelerates pretty well in the right gear when needed as well. If I didn't spend half my life stuck in traffic jams I'd probably still go for manual gearbox, but in stop start it's a lot easier on my left knee with the DSG.

Let's hope this is the issue which is good news and also hope you do not have any dashboard rattles after they have finished the work, keep us posted on progress ect.

Good news.

Got the car back today - all as promised, replacement carpets and mats, no smell, no damp. And a very clean interior as well as exterior too, thorough job. Best of all, all my various settings haven't been messed with, including mirrors, seat and display, and my dashcam wiring has been replaced 'as left' following the removal and reinstallation of the dashboard.

The mpg of 45-48 is a bit galling after two weeks of getting 60 mpg, but the courtesy car was not 4WD or a 190 or a DSG, so all those things add up, I'm guessing.

Anyway I think it only fair to give a mention to Listers VW in Worcester, who have been thoroughly professional and sorted this issue out with no drama.

At least, let's hope it IS sorted! Sounds like it though, they've done extensive testing since the repair and found no ingress occurring.

Hows the car, did the fix work?

Add me to the list. Because my drive is qiuite steep I park sideways on to the house and always reverse in, therefore the nearside of the car is lower than the offside.
Last night, after having not used the car for three days I saw that the front passenger footwell carpet was saturated ( see photo ) and there was water droplets on the passenger visor, no other area appears to be effected.
I had the sunroof modification carried out a few weeks ago, prior to that no problems.
Like Tiggy I have booked my car in to Listers in Worcester so hopefully will get a similar positive experience.

take to a main dealer. its their problem to fix. they will want to keep the car for three days. this is free of charge.

Have now got my car back with the dealers having fitted new carpets, the problem was blocked drainage channels from the sunroof so hopefully all now sorted , didn't get an opportunity to have a courtesy car as apparently they needed 10 days notice, pity as I would have liked the chance to try out a T Roc with a view to replacing my wife's Hyundai., otherwise no complaints about my dealer experience.

As this is a known issue for some time I wonder if they have done any remedial work on the new built Tiguan to stop this issue.

The drains from the roof should be a service check for blockage and it is for some manufacturers I am told. If it isn't for VW I would be making a point of it and want proof it was looked during each service. It is a fairly simple exercise for them to do using compressed air to clear any debris in there. I wouldn't have a sunroof for a bet and this is one of the reasons.

Does anybody know where the drains exit?

The mk4 Golf was well known for the rubber exit points for the sunrooof drains (near the front door hinges) to become stuck closed, allowing the water to back fill and then spill out into the car. A squeeze to release then every so often was required. Speaking from experience of flooded car.

dealer, don't bother doing anything else. their problem to fix, tell to fix it.

If you do decide to do something yourself these may help.........
Steve

Is it the hose that blocks or the drain hole?

If it is the hose why do they just not fir a larger diameter hose.
