Area view calibration

Post by xtrailman » Thu Jan 09, 2020 1:22 pm

Has anyone had this done?

Car shows dead centre between parking lines on the screen but car is not physically central in the bay its self.
I'm wanting an idea of how long it takes the dealer to re-calibrate, assuming its not a DIY job.

Another forum member kindly posted this video recently, It looks fairly straight forward so shouldn't take too long, less than half a day, maybe only 1-2 hours?

I recently had to have my front screen replaced in my 2018 R line 240 Tiguan by a leading windscreen supplier. The calibration took less than an hour from start to finish. I have been told by my local VW dealer that there aren’t many VW dealerships with the equipment to carry out the calibration and when it’s carried out by VW it’s very expensive!

My car is going into the dealers on Monday to have the area view calibrated as the passenger side wing mirror camera dosen`t line up with the front and back cameras. I asked them if they had the equipment, mats ect to do it and he said they did although i`m not 100% convinced they have.
I`ll post back what happens Monday when i get home.

Thanks for all the replies, it looks like i will need to book in for another day to get the camera system sorted as the dealer says they need it for the day, i was hoping to get it done with the service and android 9 patch while waiting...

Am i correct in thinking this is covered by warranty

Probably not. Like all things that can be adjusted- wheel alignment etc., unless a component has failed then it's unlikely to be sorted under warranty (unless you have an exceptional dealer of course!).

If it has done it since new it should be fixed under warranty as its not like it can be damaged by normal use

I'll ask the dealer next wed.

Its not that far out but it would be nice to have it accurate.

Got mine sorted today , took a while as the had to go and get the calibration equipment from another branch but it now works fine.
They said they had never had to do it before. Any decent VW dealers should be able to calibrate it so the images line up ok.

So my dealer found no error codes so carried out no calibration, which is strange as now area view is more or less now reading accurate?

Only two things have changed a infotainment update to version 853, and the mirrors were closed on picking up the car.

It was a bit embarrassing as i asked the service woman to confirm it was still not showing correct position only to find it now was!
When i parked up before service it was defiantly showing incorrect....

She also said they had no calibration equipment or knowledge of it, so i "educated " her by bring up this thread on my phone..

I'm just wondering if the mirrors with being folded came to rest in a slightly different position to previously.
