190TSI DSG gear change noise

Post by mork23 » Tue Sep 15, 2020 4:08 pm

Hi,

I've noticed over the summer when driving out of my road with windows open I can hear what I thought initially was a puff of wind when the DSG box changed up from 2nd to 3rd (and to a lesser extent, 3rd to 4th). Having heard this a few more times recently with windows more commonly being open when pulling away it sounds less like a wind noise and more like a plastic scrape if that makes sense? Driving off my drive and out of my road is all uphill and you know how keen the DSG is to pull away from 2nd and I'm now paranoid this means the DSG box has undergone a fair amount of wear over the 10k miles it's now done.

Any ideas on this? Obviously it needs dealer attention and I'm delaying the inevitable...

Thanks in advance

I had a 180TSI Tig which I bought new in September 2016. On the day I collected it, I had only gone 7 miles before I started hearing a scraping sound as the box changed through 3rd gear. Mine was more of a metallic sound. I had to return the car the same day and it needed a new DSG. It doesn't sound like you have the same problem as your car has done 10k miles whereas I assume mine was likely to have been a manufacturing failure. However, interesting that we both had/have problems with 3rd gear?

I would book this in as soon as possible. I assume your car is still under warranty and so this should be no cost to you.

Good luck.

Watched till 2:00 and can't hear anything out of order, but maybe that's just me.

Either way, my DSG in 1.5 TSI also tends to be a little noisy occasionally. It's audible even from inside, with all the windows closed. It has its good and bad days, with shifting smoothness and noises.
