So I recently and foolishly updated my Sat Nav SD card from

3GO.919.866.S 0635 ECE1 2016/2017

to the recent

5NA.919.866 1030 ECE1 2018/2019

and discovered to my horror that my local stretch of dual carriageway on the A14 went from a consistent and correct 70mph to...

60..70....60..70..60...70...etc

in the space of a ten minutes driving.

Similar issues reported by many others on this forum.

I took a backup of the old version of course...

....but I'm wondering if there's a 2017/2018 version that's more up to date than my backup?

And whether there's a website where older versions can be downloaded.

In case anyone is interested here is the version numbers for discover media (mib2)

Platform AS
Region Version Version Number Part Number Map Version
Europe V1 0235 3G0-919-866 ECE 2014/15
Europe V2 0335 3G0-919-866-E ECE 2015
Europe V3 0430 3G0-919-866-H ECE 2015/16
Europe West V4 0521 3G0-919-866-M ECE1 2016
Europe West V5 0635 3G0-919-866-S ECE1 2016/17
Europe West V6 0730 3G0-919-866-AQ ECE1 2017

Europe West V8 0915 3G0-919-866-BJ ECE1 2018
Europe West V9 1030 5NA.919.866 ECE1 2018/19 << Broken one for dual carriageways

Which would make V8 probably the most recent non-broken one and the one I'd probably try to get.

Although I suspect a new one might be published week 45 (5th Nov) so maybe that one will be fixed.

Stick with the 2017/18 version as there are problems with the 2018 update as well as the 2018/19 update. I fortunately had kept a copy of the 2017/18 update and still use that.
Hopefully the 2019 update, when it comes out, will address all the problems.

Thanks. You don't happen to know the filename for that version? Googling has not revealed that for me yet

I may have cracked the code

DiscoverMedia2_EU1_<weeknumber><last two digits of year>_<version number><optional other stuff>.7z

but that doesn't help me much without knowing the year of release and optional other suffixes to the file name

I have complained to VW about the poor quality sat nav and have been told of course it is nothing to do with them and to submit map problems at https://www.here.com/en/contact or on the HERE Map Creator app available on Android and Apple. Looking at the maps in my local area there are lots of errors and some very strange average speeds so I am not surprised the system keeps sending people on such strange routes. Unfortunately the system does not seem to allow for UK road speeds and road types very well.

I must be one of the few people who find the inbuilt sat nav quite good, obviously you don't have to follow it turn for turn if you know of a better route, it's only an aid to help you and it's never once failed to get me where I need to be, and as long as it's connected to Car-Net the traffic info is pretty good as well. Personally I'm quite happy with it.

My faith has grown a little bit after a big trip up to Blackpool with the 2017/2018 version of the data.

It wanted me to dive off the A1 cross country at Worksop rather than carry on up to Leeds and head West to Manchester.

Here we go I thought but I cross checked with Google maps which was making the same recommendation due to an accident ahead.

Pretty much on that trip it did the job.

It just certain later versions seem to have problems.

If you register and go to https://mapcreator.here.com/ you can see the map settings and send in updates to errors. On the A34 near where I live most of the slip roads on to and off the road have average speeds of 80mph so its not surprising that every time there is congestion on the main road and the average speed drops the systems tells you to come off and then re-join the road as it thinks its faster, I presume that is the reason cardriver29 has so many problems on the A14.
I was hoping that the VW system would be a reasonable match to the TomTom system I'm used to using but unfortunately it doesn't come close.

Is that the A34 in the UK????

I have also complained to VW. I do not accept that it is nothing to do with them. We purchased the car from them. It is their responsibility in the same way that they they are responsible for car parts that they have not manufactured. They have a contact with HERE. Only they can take action against them.
As regards to notifying HERE or using the Map Creator, I have looked at their map and the speed limits are shown correctly on roads that the VW sat nav has incorrect speed limits. The problem therefore lies with the data that VW have.
Incidentally, HERE is majority-owned by a consortium of Germa car companies including Audi (part of the VAG group)!

After many failed attempts earlier this month at updating to the October 18 maps using discovercare, each of which failed with a checksum error at 99% of the download completed, I had one final attempt today and surprisingly, it worked!

I have previously tried just downloading the maps, which was easy enough, but when I tried to unzip the file using 7-zip, it wouldn't work, hence why I went back to try discovercare one last time.

My wife's Honda HRV uses a similar software to update the maps ( Garmin Express). This software appears much more stable and I have updated the maps on the HRV several times, first time.

I have no issues downloading and unzipping, what is exactly happening when unzipping
Downloading the file isn't an issue. When I select the downloaded file using the 7-zip software, it doesn't recognise it as a 7z file and consequently doesn't process the file.

Hey cardriver29. I did the same thing as you. Foolishly updated my Sat Nav SD card from V8 to the recent V10 and have experienced the same problems. Unlike you I do not have a backup because the dealer updated my V8 SD card. Thanks for your list of previous versions, that's very helpful. In your post you say V7 is the' last good one'. My V8 used to send me off main routes for no good reason to so I have found an SD V7 on eBay. Do you think that should fix the erratic speed display problems. Mine keeps going 60...70...60...70.. and 30...20...30...20...30...20. Many thanks for any comments you may have.

I also believe V7 ws the last 'good' version. Unfortunately, V7 was from around early 2017, meaning the maps will now be 3 yrs out of date, as it usually takes mapping companies a year to release updated roads. Having said that, at least V7 doesn't have any other issues.

I situation regarding VW maps is a bad joke, that VW aren't interested in.

Just got the new map update, Version 11. It still has the incorrect 60mph speed limit for dual carriageways. It starts at 70mph then resets to 60. Going back to Version 7!
Same here, downloaded a few days ago and tested with a trip to Duxford yesterday, limits up the spout. The dynamic speeds were sort of ok on the m25 but it was no where near as good at reading them as our old Octavia :(
