Keyless access system faulty

Post by kenville » Thu Mar 28, 2019 6:55 pm

Picked up my new Tiguan today. Been on a few nice little drives and loving it so far. But this evening I got a message on my dash saying "keyless access system faulty" and a beep every minute or so.

Brand new car. Is there an easy fix for this? Or a trip to the dealer on day one of the car?

Thanks

Try getting out and locking using the key. Leave for 10 mins then go back and see if it still beeps.

Sometimes it just needs a reset.

When you say use the key do you mean the lock button on the fob or the actual key? Might be silly question; this is is my first keyless car. Thanks!

I think he possibly means the button on the fob
Have you tried the spare key see if you get the same error with that one

Apparently this was caused by an open circuit, whatever that means. Dealer got it looked at very quickly which was nice. They did say if it happens again then it could be a faulty antenna which is a much bigger job.

Right, so the problem has come back and now got to take the car back for a whole day.

For a new car this really isn’t acceptable. Has anyone had a problem with a brand new car and how would you go about making a complaint?

It’s a pain but a fault like this is not uncommon on a new car. My wife’s Tiguan had a faulty door lock on collection. It wouldn’t work properly with keyless entry. Anyways got it fixed and no other problem over last two years. No big point in complaining once dealer puts it right.

Will take your advice on that one. It's just very frustrating to have problems with a brand new car when it costs all that money.

There is always the potential for a new device to fail. There is something called 'the bathtub curve' that plots failure rates against time. This indicates that things will either fail very soon, or very old, with a few random failures in between. If you get past the first few months, then generally you are ok.

At least when it fails early there is no argument about who has to pay to fix it. It's when faults show up that were 'obviously' there from the start (well, obvious to us, the customer) but just beyond the warranty period that are really annoying.
