Boot/bumper alignment issue

Post by Dba » Mon Apr 15, 2019 12:24 pm

ImageHad noticed on the boot that on both sides paint had chipped also marks on bumper where seems to be catching.
My mum and brother have a 66 and 67 plate Tiguan both have identical paint issues in same place all different levels of damage from chip to blister crack about 2 inch long
Been to same dealer individually who have advised my mum boot is not aligned correctly and lower than should be causing contact under normal road conditions.
I’ve been today same dealer different adviser who said not boot alignment as solid but the bumper is too high Hense contact both have individually gone to vw under investigation for a warranty claim.

Anyone else got this damage or successfully gained a warranty claim see pics cheeers in advance

Doesn't look good, boots on my old cars were easily adjusted by making the bump stops longer and adjusting the boot lock catch, i suspect the same is still relevant to the Tiguan wether it has electric boot or not.

Told me boot not adjustable and solid so put it down to bumper but IMO looks like boot not aligned any pics of ones aligned would be welcomed

Your pictures are not brilliant but the gap looks OK to me, it appears there is to much movement in either the the bumper or the boot, i would say boot and bump stops need adjusting outwards as well as the catch.

I’ve noticed this exact problem on plenty of Tiguan. It’s relatively common to leave slight mark on bumper. Never seen paint chipped on boot though....I’d be winding out the two plastic stops either side on boot to see if it helps

Interesting as looking at buying sh mk2 2017 Tiguan today and both had this issue - is it that common? and do VW UK repair under warranty? as wasn’t won over by salesman talking about touch up paint....!

Hope yours was resolved ok
