Tiguan 2 TDI Oil Change

Post by rgrc29 » Mon May 13, 2019 9:59 pm

Hi there, hope someone can help, I've searched the internet but can't find any information of guide on changing the oil and filter in my Tiguan. I'm not a great believer in a long period between oil changes and as i've just bought the car i'd like to know it's got good fresh oil in it as i've got a long drive coming up in the summer. I found a manufacturers service guide for my last car, which was perfect with oil type and volumes, socket sizes and torques, but can't find a thing for this VW anywhere, help?!?

I haven't checked, but there must be some info on oil type & capacity in the handbook.

On my last visit to the stealer I noted a gentleman getting an oil filter and oil from the service department so that he could do his own oil change. Not suggesting you buy from a vw stealership, but why not ask what oils, filter part etc should be used at the service department of your local vw stealesrship?

Thankyou for the replies, it will come as no surprise that it's already booked into the main stealer for another issue, I may just ask them what and how much I need.
My last car was childsplay to do an oil change on, I'm hoping this won't be too different.

My Allspace came with a 1L of Castrol Edge Professional Longlife III 5W/30 (boosted with Titanium FST).

Also, see https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/recommended-oil

And see https://applications.castrol.com/oilsel ... on-(2017-) [change for your own model if you still don't believe it]

Luckily, all three are the same, so I would suggest that that is the correct oil.

As for quantity, the Castrol site suggests 5.7L, convenient when sold in 5L containers! I have found this quantity posted on other sites too, as well as some USA sites saying 6 quarts (which is near enough 5.7L).

I can't find anything in the owner's handbook about oil capacity.

PanMan, that's brilliant, the volume is the key info i need as i can probably work out the rest from guides to the same engine in different VW models already on youtube.

My previous car was a BMW F30 320d and i found an actual manufacturers guide - https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f30- ... 1VnZ1870NV

I'd love to be able to find something similar for the Tiguan.

I think access to the filter isn't brilliant on the EA288 engine - maybe some cables to disconnect and move out of the way? No problem if you're doing this sort of thing regularly but you might want to check before getting too far into it.

Hi Rory, is that the engine model i’ve Got in this thing, an EA288?
I’m still struggling to get any concrete info on doing an oil change, the best quote from a VW specialist is £118
If I can find the filter location and get a firm figure for oil quantity I’ll give it a go, might even record it and put it on YouTube.

Or watch the one already on YouTube?

Unless, of course, the USA engine is significantly different to the European version. Also, he shows 0W 10 oil, whereas 5W 10 longlife is recommended.

6 US quarts = 5.7 litres

Strange how your Tig Allspace has an oil capacity of 5.7ltrs yet my 2.0tdi swb shows 4.7ltrs?

How does that work? You’d think they’d be the same engine!
