Steam cloud from exhaust

Post by rmahon999 » Sun Feb 23, 2020 6:25 pm

Hi,
I have a 19 Plate VW Tiguan 2.0 TSi 190 DSG 4Motion and I’m slightly concerned about the amount of steam/smoke coming out of the exhaust. I know in this colder weather steam will come out of the exhaust until the engine gets to operating temperature where it will sudside. My car however still seems to emit high levels of steam e en when warm. Today I put my foot down Hard to get out of a junction and I was shocked at the amount of steam the car was leaving behind it. Is this normal, does any one else’s Petrol Tiguan do the same thing?

I noticed the same effect last week on a rainy day, the journey time until I saw it occur was between 15 and 20 minutes. No other indications so I have ignored it.

During a few recent colder damp days I too noticed what seemed to be an excess of condensation/steam. There are no other symptoms of a problem so I but it down to it perhaps being more noticeable due to aerodynamics than anything else.

I have, of course, been known to be wrong!!

Mine has done this from the start (3 years ago). Absolute clouds of steam for the first 3 or 4 mins in coldish weather. I've never seen another car do it, but was fobbed off by the dealer who said it was normal. It's just the embarrassment factor now that bothers me.

Certainly not on my car, it’s a TDI not a TSI so it looks like it occurs on oil burners as well as petrol.

My car pre-dates the introduction of this, so nothing to do with it.

Well I’ve spoken to my dealer about this and it’s booked in next week to be checked, just doesn’t seem right. When I put my foot down today I couldn’t see the car behind me due to the steam so I don’t think somethings right.
