New to VW

Post by Holmsey » Tue Apr 06, 2021 5:57 pm

Just had my Tiguan 4 days, so on the 30 day trial period, if I don't 100% like it, I can take it back. ;o)

It was purchased as my wife is struggling with getting in and out of our BMW which is too low for her. The Tiguan came out favourite after looking at quite a few different makes.
The one we both liked the look of was the 2018 R-Line 2.0D.

My wife loves it, but I can't believe the horrendous road noise it makes, on some road surfaces it is almost unbearable.
It has had two new tyres on the front, so I'm going to put them on the rear to see if that helps, as the noise seems to be coming all from the rear.

I have an old pickup (2003) that is like a Rolls Royce compared to it and probably been spoiled with the BM.
Time will tell, MPG is not as good as I expected about 38mpg on a run (not done round town yet).
Apart from this, I love everything else about it. More than likely we are going to keep it (I'll just have to wear earplugs) ;o)

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase. No one really complains about road noise from the R-Line 20" wheels, mine came with Continentals. What brand of tyres are on yours?

Check tyre pressure, they may be at the full load PSi, I keep mine at 35 all round and find it fine

Hi, thanks for the replies. The tyres are Conti's on the rear and Falken on the front. The pressures were 38 psi, so I've dropped them to 34psi. I have yet to drive it, to see if it's made any improvement.

MY20 R-Line 2.0 150 diesel here, running Contis. I always keep the tyre pressure at the 'comfort' level, which makes it a little smoother, but don't know if it affects the road noise volume. Agree that, depending on the surface, the road noise can sometimes be intrusive, but it's similar to my old Passat. Fuel economy tends to be mid-40s on average, but this was a run at the weekend mainly on 60 and 70mph roads.

That was the mpg I was expecting, but it seems more likely to be 38mpg as the long-range recording says the same. Mine is the 190so maybe that's the reason. Early days have only done 300miles so far. Thanks for the input.

Hello,
Just got my first VW car - a Tiguan R Line. As it's an automatic, I'm having to get used to not reaching for the gearstick. I'm enjoying trying out the features of the digital cockpit

Nice car. If your tires are unusually noisy I would suggest you first of all check the rotation arrows on the tire wall are the correct orientation. Then check the tire tread pattern for any damage and that the rims are not buckled in any way. ;)

Welcome

I have 20” Conti’s all round on my Tig and the pressures are set 38 all round
Don’t have much noise in the cabin (compared to my previous Golf GTi on 18” tyres) and I live in the SWest where the roads are nowhere near perfect
