I can not believe we are still reading this issue.

My car is a 2019 version and had the issue and was resolved in the first month I got the car, all I can assume is when people are buying a second hand car the first owners either did not care or did not see the error.

As you can no longer get the 230 Petrol model R Line Tech this issue will not happen on this engine spec.

My petrol R Line Tech 230 was registered as a TDi and I had 4 logbooks

Even now some 15 months later, its still showing on insurance websites as a TDi (inc VW's Service site where I have to manually amend) and the tyre websites show my car as having 235/45/20 rubber fitted

Absolute shambles imo and although it may not happen on the R Line 230 Petrol anymore, it doesnt mean it wont happen again

I have been doing a bit more research around this problem as like above all VRM lookups (Car parts/Tyres/Insurance) even my flippin invoices from VW have it wrong but they work off the chassis number for actual work.

The SMMT have a database called "MVRIS" The Motor Vehicle Registration Information System
This is a database of new vehicle registration details in the UK for cars and commercial vehicles (less than 6 tonne gross vehicle weight).
It is this database where I believe the data to be incorrect. I am going to try and contact them to see if they have an update procedure but have been waiting for everyone to get sorted from the xmas break so any enquiry didn't get lost in the holiday period. I will report back if I get any luck.

Just finished getting this corrected.

The dealer has to contact VW UK who will provide a letter confirming the correct model for the VIN NUMBER.

Send that letter to DVA and they send a new V5.

simples really.

Sorry about reviving an old thread - I couldn't find the answers to my specific questions addressed anywhere else in the forum, but noticed your previous SMMT reference. I've contacted them as well and will also report back if I hear anything.

I understand dealer will get DVLA corrected when the dealer sends the V5C letter, which is fine. I thought this was a one-off issue with my car until I stumbled across this forum. As I mentioned, mine's actually a 150 TDI, not a 230. And yes, JK, the used market's being affected now. Presume mine was a PCP or lease for the first year of its life and nobody noticed or cared about the anomaly. As mine was an outright used purchase with only 6k on the clock it seemed good value, but the residual does matter to me.

Referring back to my post, is HLBMT 'High Line Blue Motion Tech' - i.e. an SEL? Haven't been able to find that model code breakdown anywhere.

Yes you can get the V5 resolved but it really should not have been an issue from day 1 let alone still happening now, will be interesting to hear if the issue is happening on the new facelift model.

Your need to contact your VW dealer and get them to change the V5.

Its being done from the dealer I got it from, he's sent a letter away to dvla requesting it to be changed. I didn't get it from a vw dealer

Good news, it will take a few weeks to be sorted and come back, as I assume you have not brought this new it shows how many people have not checked there V5 matches the vehicle they have brought, something I do first thing I get the V5 on every car I buy and I would not be parting any money for a second hand car that shows an incorrect V5 on a private sale, via a dealer is different. ;)

I didnt need to check the v5, the dealer I got from is my neighbours and we get all our cars from him and he pointed it out to me. But I can see ur point from a private sale if it was wrong. Most ppl must just not notice it, but it was flagged up when I give the insurance company the reg.
