Tailgate

Post by whitepm3 » Thu Jun 10, 2021 3:06 pm

Just bought a 67 plate Tiguan r line 4m. Don’t think it’s got an electric tailgate. Can’t find a switch on the driver door to unlock the tailgate either. Can you get the electric tailgate retro fitted? If so, any idea how much it would cost?

That is a high price at £1800 to have a power tailgate.

It’s crazy to think on the used market an R Line Tech is worth a few grand more than a non Tech model but with the Tech you get so many more useful bits.
If you tried to build a non tech to tech spec it would cost a small fortune.

It is always worth trying to get the bits you want before you buy a vehicle as adding them later is both costly and time consuming.
Also if you have just bought the vehicle you will need to be very careful if it has a VW warranty as fitting the power tailgate could invalidate any warranty on the vehicle.

My last couple of cars had electric tailgates. When I bought this Tiguan, it wasn't in the spec.

To be honest, I find it quicker and easier without power. Nice novelty but the balance is such that non powered is very easy to use and pushing the release, tucked up into the tailgate, it stays fairly clean and I don't get dirty. The inner handle is easy to use for closing.

Just my experience, coming from disappointed that it isn't to have one and buying an ex demonstrator, I couldn't spec it.

Having never had a powered tailgate before I love it. Always got my hands full either loading or unloading and a quick kick has it doing the necessary, opening or closing. Or a long press of the remote to open fully
Personally I wouldn't like to back to manual
