Tiguan Alternatives

Post by leehal » Fri Jun 11, 2021 8:01 am

Might not be the right place to ask, but, can anyone advise of any comparable cars price and spec wise to a Tiguan?

My main criteria is comfort (I went for DCC on mine and it makes all the difference for my back).

Looking at options, my car isn't due for replacement for a while but the latest specs/prices don't seem as much of a bargain as my current lease.

I'd be interested to hear the pros and cons of anything people have looked at, had before or have changed to.

I do like the look of the BMW X1 I have to say.

But yeah, I have no idea how they compare price-wise. Purely going on visual appeal and similar type size here! :)

The Peugeot 3008 (or 5008 for a 7 seater) is worth a look. That was a very close second when I bought my Tig. Nice interior, well equipped and similar on price.

Otherwise there’s all the equivalent VAG group cars - Seat Ateca, Skoda Karoq or Audi Q3.

BMW X1 and Merc GLA (and the Audi) if you want to go more upmarket. Maybe the Volvo XC40 but I though that was a bit on the small side.

I have to say I quite like the styling looks of the cupra formentor/tarraco as well

Haven't sat inside one but I would certainly check it out vs if I was ever considering a Tig R

Pound for pound the Formentor is definitely on my list when my lease ends

Just read an article on the new Hyundai Tuscon in Auto Express

Seems good for the price, hybrid technology and a 5 year warranty

Tried one out and found it very claustrophobic inside. Also had a loon at the BMW X1, 2 and 3 but no decent deals to be had on petrol variants.
Choice eventually came down to the Tiggy and the Cupra Ateca VZ2. Beginning to think I made the wrong choice as the Cupra had a confirmed July build date. 7 weeks in on the VW and still at stage 2!
One minor thing with Seat/Cupra is that there are only about three optional extras, although a high based spec

The Cupra Formentor looks different to most of the current SUV’s but is very plasticity inside and has a certain element of a “Max Power” look to it.
It is designed to attract the younger driver of which I am not.

It appears that marketing is targeting the younger buyer and to a certain degree the practicality side of SUV’s is being lost to making things faster rather than more capable.

Don’t get me wrong I love speed in the correct places having had many fast cars.
But I hope that we don’t see the manufacturers ploughing the designers pot of money into performance rather than developing vehicles to suit the needs of existing audiences.

I felt the same way about the Cupra Ateca, so passed on that for another Tig
