Hi guys yes mine is a 2.0 petrol tsi variant. I actually realised that in the morning when I first start my car, this rattle noise is not evident. Only after driving it for a while does the rattle and clicks start coming on.. the product specialist did explain that it could be the transmission oil viscosity that becomes thinner when it’s heated up therefore the rattle. Wonder if it’s possible to replace the trans oil with something more viscous. But read online that this oil can be quite tricky and not suitable to change it unless recommended by manufacturer. Still exploring with them.. will continue to update..

Reminds me of when the Range Rovers first came out and all the noise problems we had with them, a chain drive transfer case was manufactured by someone to overcome the problems caused by shunt in the drive line.

Hi guys, I recently joined the Taiwan Facebook group for the new Tiguan. They have 15k members in it. Seems like a really big market and a popular mode there. I have posted my rattling issue there but most don’t seem to have the issue we face. They are all pretty happy with their tiguans.. think our problem could be a batch specific problem.. hi GTD184, what’s the current status with your fight with VW? Any resolutions as yet?

Hi Singapore Tiguan This Drivetrain issue is across all VAG platforms so could be a manufacturing defect or potentially a design fault take a look here on Skoda Kodiak Forum - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/435757-noise/ and http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/ ... 19346.html.

Volkswagen cannot continue ignoring this increasingly reported issue and customer concern!

Interestingly I came across the following quote on a Hub Pages article which may explain the noise and why VW are not interested in correcting the problem -;

"The mechanical workings of the DSG—the physical gears and syncros—don’t tend to fail very often in my experience. I have seen a number of instances of bearings wearing down, however. This typically results in a metallic noise when driving.

I have known DSG transmissions with this symptom to be driven for quite some time with no ill-effects other than quite irritating driving noise, however I most definitely wouldn’t recommend you leave this problem unattended. If the mechanical components of the DSG did fail, it would be pretty catastrophic for the transmission.

The fix is a bearing kit, assuming the problem is dealt with promptly and no other damage has been caused."

I have noticed that mine is noisier when cold, particularly changing down to 3rd in to 2nd when it's a bit too keen to, sounds a bit mechanical, but doesn't seem so bad when warm.

Cannot be the same problem as my wife's Tiguan. It has been noted that the DriveTrain on her Tiguan appears to be less noisy during colder temperatures, possibly due to oil viscosity......as soon as it reaches halfway operating temperature it randomly grates and grinds when downshifting and has a worn bearing noise whilst driving at constant speed up to 40 mph.......very poorly refined with obvious mechanical issues! :evil:

Hi GTD184, I suppose my problem is very similar to your wife’s problem. May I know what are you intending to do to resolve this issue? I am also getting an independent mechanic to fully diagnose and pinpoint the issue. He drove my car once and think it’s definitely not normal. He specializes in VW. Mentioned that across the multiple VW 4 motions he dealt with, these noise only appear after many years of driving. Very unusual for a brand new car to exhibit such noise. He thinks it could be the clutch flywheel issue. Will continue to update.

Maybe you could tell us where, it's not clear on my phone where your rattle is?

He also said the independent mechanic found that one of his drive shafts was bent!
:D Happy to be buying another one.
