Re: 2.0tdi 2017 Wont start
Hi,
Just wondering if you were able to fix this fault?
I have the same car and this morning, in the cold weather my car would not start. Two hours later with AA in attendance it started perfectly...
Local VW dealership can find no fault.
Would welcome an update.
Thanks ever so.

Any solutions to this this problem? My 2012 2.0TDI won't start when engine is warm (starts perfectly when cold). The problem started gradually about 2 years ago and would happen more often when ambient temp was high as well. But now it happens every time engine is warm even at low ambient temps. Had it at dealership, can't find problem. Even did a coolant system flush, didn't help.

Hi Lizl, this forum covers the Tiguan mk2, so although you have a similar problem you may have better luck on a mk1 Tiguan forum such as here https://www.mytiguan.com/Lizl wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 8:16 pmAny solutions to this this problem? I hope you get your problem sorted.

If it does not show on there computerised system they connect to the car then in VW opinion regardless that you have a fault they will tell you there is no fault.TunbridgeWells wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2019 4:49 pmHi,

Unfortunately this is how dealers now work, if the computer says no then its no.

Anyone find a solution to this? I’ve had the same issue a couple of times over the last week or so. I’ve put it down to the cold weather but now not so sure. I’ve only had the slow to start issue when turning the key which after usually 2 attempts it’s fine. It seems like it’s difficult to diagnose. Any words of wisdom from recent posters who encountered this? What was the conclusion?

Afeadugg, just to check you're waiting for the glowplug cycle? Diesels when cold won't generate sufficient heat to spontaneously combust, so they have glowplugs heating the cylinder. Modern engines this is delay is usually minimal, but can still be required in very cold weather.
Just try turning ignition full on, put your seat belt on, then try starting. If it's still a problem, but does eventually start, could be a faulty glowplug.

Also don't forget (if you have a key that is), just keep your foot on the brake and turn the key once. It is a switch and not like old skool ignitions so no need to hold it in position til it starts. it will start when it's ready.

Had the same issue with my last Tig a couple of times. As a result I disabled auto stop-start every time I used the car, and it didn't happen during the last 18 months I had the car. Think it only happened twice - one after stopping to refuel (so engine was warm) and once from cold. Both times the car would start fine after being left for 30mins, but that's not always practical. Was never diagnosed as a fault by VW and they had the car for several days but weren't able to reproduce the issue. Lease ended so car has gone back - feel bad for anyone encountering this outside of warranty.
