Won’t a 1.5tsi engine be a little underpowered for an AllSpace?
Correct me if I’m wrong.

What makes you think that?. I'm sure the 1.5 TSI is more than adequate for the Allspace. It still has 150PS and does 0-60 in under 10 seconds - what more do you need. Pretty much the same figures for the 2.0 150 diesel.

I’m sure the low end torque from a diesel is much better for a car this size to get it moving than a 3-pot petrol. No?
Seein as you’ve ordered a petrol, I’m assuming you do low miles so the car will most probably someone time on short low speed journeys. I’m sure having to lug a heavy car on a low powered petrol would hit mpg severely as well.

3-pot petrol....................................The 1.5 TSI is 4 cylinder engine. It gets moving as quick as the 2.0 150 TDI hence the almost identical 0-60 times so no problems there at all. The mpg under the new WLTP 'real world' conditions for the 1.5 are also considerably better than the 2.0 190 petrol so again the mpg is not severely hit by any measure, quite the opposite.

Sorry for the confusion. I thought it was 3 cylinder. I did consider the 1.5 when ordering mine, but I was given the same advice re low end torque being better on a diesel so it suited to the Tiguan better. Otherwise ,I probably would have gone for it myself as I only do 7000 miles per year.

Me thinks you may have been ill-advised to buy a diesel if you're only doing 7k a year. I suspect the dealer had several in-stock diesels to clear. Normally you'd need to be doing at least 14k (may be more) for a diesel - there several theories on this in the various motoring sites. I do 25k a year, so petrol was not feasible for long term economy, otherwise I'd have gone down the petrol route. Agreed you do get more low down torque in the diesel, but that's to be expected.

We have had one since March and love it. I'm not into fast cars and it's a family wagon but it works very well with the auto gearbox. We're not long back from taking it fully loaded on a holiday to the Netherlands 2 adults, 2 kids boot full and bikes on the back and it never missed a beat.
