Decisions, decisions...

Post by CJJE » Tue Oct 08, 2019 8:39 pm

My Golf SV will be five years old next February, needing an expensive service which includes changing drive belts etc.

And if Johnson gets his way, imported cars will be saddled with a 10.8% tariff when he crashes us out of the EU.

If he's forced to ask for an extension, AND it's granted, AND it's to the end of January, then I could order my new Tiguan at the end of October and hope to take delivery (pre-tariff) in January. Thus avoiding the need to service my Golf.

But persistent rumours say that the facelifted Tiguan will be launched at Geneva in March, (with deliveries from June??)

If the EU actually extend Brexit until next June, that might work, but there's still the likelihood of a general election and the uncertainty of its outcome!

Let's hope things seem clearer by the end of October, but this is not looking like a good time to order a new car yet!

If I was in your position i'd look out for one of the pre-reg 69 plates that seem to be mentioned all over the place.
Get one with a HUGE discount and not worry too much about what might be coming up (face-lift or not) and what affect Brexit (or not) will have on prices. That's just me though, follow the deal.

The Tiguan seems to be too early in its lifecycle for a mk3 so any facelift is going to be relatively minor. Also announcing in March presumably means they might be available in September next year.

Basically do you want to do that service and hang on until then or do you want to change cars soonish. It seems unlikely that a Tiguan is going to get massively cheaper so I would look round to see what deals you can find.

All fair points. I agree the changes are likely to be pretty minor - I can't say I've noticed the facelifted Golf SVs as being much different to my early model, but one of my 'obsessions' is speccing a new car as a factory build rather than buying off the showroom, so despite today's VW statement that they are building up stocks before the end of October it's unlikely I'd get just what I'm looking for. Certainly when I look at 6 month-old demo cars I never see any Caribbean Blue SELs with a petrol DSG transmission!

A quick plunge at the end of the month may well be the way forward though. :)

If it’s any help/use, I’ve noticed my dealer in Norfolk currently has 3 tsi 2.0 230 ps tiguans with delivery mileage with discounts between £7785 and £9200. Indium grey or white. They need to be sold end of month according to ad. I’m sure other dealers have same but saw these on my local one when looking for something else.

Nice idea, but my local dealers (both the same company) only have R-Lines on Lease deals. (I prefer to buy my cars so I have flexibility in how long I keep them. )
