Latest advice on tyres for R-line

Post by Snoozy » Wed Aug 19, 2020 5:42 pm

I have a 2019 R-line needing new tyres (255/40 R20). I have read great things about the Pirelli Scorpions but they don’t offer them for the size needed. The Pirelli site recommends P-zero’s. I’m looking for a good all-season tyre with good durability and low road noise. Has anyone tried the P-zeros or are there other suggestions? The factory-fitted Continentals have lasted less than 13k so I won’t be fitting those.

My R-Line Tech has the same tyre size as you and came fitted with Pirelli Scorpions. So far, done about 6,000 miles and tread is still 7mm all round. Others have said they do last a long time. I find these tyres very good in the dry and wet but they are not all-season which is not a problem for me being based in the south-east.

Others here may have a better solution for you if you need an all season tyre.

I've spent a lot of time looking at all season tyres for this RLine and my previous one. I find the 20" wheel has a very limited choice. All I've found so far ar Vredestein Quatrac PRO 255/40 R20 or Pirelli P7 Cinturato. I'm still looking as my new Tig has a good few mm of tread on my Continentals left.

P-Zeros are a flagship tyre. Supplied as standard on lots of sports and performance cars.

Wonderful tyres but they don't last very long. 10k miles would be good.

No idea why anyone would put them on a Tiguan.

I’ve got pirelli scorpions on my r line on 19” alloys (255/45/19). Everything is okish but the road noise which is quite high. Infact when the time comes i’ll swap them for something quieter.

Currently have the Original Continentals on rear @ 26k miles with 3.5mm, so due replacement in a couple months. Replaced fronts @ 14.5k with Michelin Super Sports (255/40 R20 101Y) at local Halfords Autocentre. Much superior tyre with better handling in wet and importantly better wheel rim protection with wider edge beading. Fronts currently 4mm so will be replacing these 2 as well with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in due course so to have same on all 4. Halfords do a 0% finance scheme and currently offering discounts for each pair tyres for under £220 each. Hope his helps.

My Tig is fitted with the Scorpions.
Not sure who 'they' are but that tyre is most certainly available in that size
