Reverse Jumping

Post by Fenners90 » Tue Sep 08, 2020 8:36 am

Does anyone else’s car jump when going into reverse while operating a DSG gear box?

Mine seems to hold then when you press the gas it jumps every time?

Doesn't sound right to me. I'm on my second Mk2 Tig - 180 TSI and 230 TSI. Neither jumped into reverse. I have also previously had a Touran with DSG and neither did that. If it were my car, I would take it to a dealer to check.

I find mine sometimes does a slight jerk as if the reverse gear isn't quite engaged then it suddenly engages and off you go suddenly if that is what you mean.

Do you have Auto Hold switched on? It’s possible that you might be experiencing a small jolt or jump when you move off and it releases, although in theory it should be seamless. I have Park Assist, and sometimes I turn Auto Hold off while using it to make manoeuvring smoother. Try turning off Auto Hold next time you reverse and see if it’s any different.

Thanks all I’ll try taking the auto hold off it’s like it gets stuck and then releases which surely isn’t right.

I can enage reverse smooth and just fine but find the engine really bogs down initially after the gear is selected. Takes a few seconds to get going once the gear is engaged. I guess it's just a quirk of the gearbox.

Potentially unrelated given its a different gear/car, so take from it what you will.

THat said I used to have low rev jumping in 1st/2nd gear on slight inclines when taking off in my old A3 8V DSG.

It was simply overdue a DSG service...

I had a DSG golf before this car and it never had this issue so potentially a fault, anyway booked in for Friday for investigation.

Only had the car 2 weeks 😂
