How can you tell if a DPF burn is happening ?
I thought the Ad Blue was to prevent the need...?
Also
Given that 2WD Cars won’t coast in D, I’ve also discovered that even if there are trees round the Lane assist icon, and the mode button is lit, and the info screen says eco, if the gear indicator says D, the car won’t coast, so unless it says E it’s not in Economy (apparantly).

Have VW got a take on this ?
Thanks

DPF and Adblue has different aims.

You understand the DPF burn starts when the idle RPM is stuck around 1000(normally 750), engine is slightly vibrating and start stop does not engage. Also, after couple of minutes of DPF burn the coolant fan runs at higher rpm and even if you shut the engine, it continues to run the fan for couple of minutes as during the DPF burn the system elements get really hot.

Ah right, I recall these things on my old Tig. I didn’t realise that’s what was happening. Now I’ll be aware of it.

On my old Insignia, I used to get a message “do not switch off engine whilst this message shows” (or words to that effect)

No, my 2WD Diesel Allspace coasts now and again in D. Just not as often as when it’s in E mode.

I’ll have to keep an eye on things to see if mine (sometimes) coasts in D.
Thanks

Different car, but related to coasting: A while after getting the misses T-Cross I noticed occasionally an eco symbol on the dash, together with gear display going to D and the revs dropping to idle. All signs it's going into coasting. Trouble was it wasn't consistent like you'd lift off 5 times, and maybe get coasting once. However more recently it's doing it maybe 4 out of 5 times, and as mentioned previously can be invoked by a tap on the accelerator.

I do drive a lot of the time with an eye to economy, not slowly, but once up to speed a light throttle and lifting off where I can. I believe it's detected this, and going into eco more frequently in response. So in this sense it is learning how you drive I think.

I've got into the habit now of pressing the mode switch and selecting Economy on the info screen every time I start off if I want eco mode. I have tried a few times to get it to coast in D but it's only done it once in about 7 times i've tried, and then it took about 5 goes to get it to show. Even in E, it doesnt always coast (for some reason), but does 19 times out of 20. I'm still not sure WHY VW have it programmed like this, and due to COVID, I can't just pop in to the dealer and physically ask a human service manager... I wonder if it will ever be resolved in a software update.... :?
