I have gesture control on my 2019 and turned it off, every-time I drove my hand would be too close and the gesture control would work.
I also see that the heads up display is now on the windscreen instead of the pop up screen.

Re: 2021 R line infotainment 8"
I have had voice activation on both of my Mk2 Tigs. I use this for making telephone calls, setting the sat nav, selecting music from a USB stick (I have several thousand songs on a stick in the car) and changing radio stations. I find this really useful as I don't need to touch the head unit while driving and finding music tracks quickly for me, is a god send. However, if you have Apple Car Play or Android Auto (I use neither) many of the functions may be covered there and so you may not need this - others will be able to advise on this.
I got it free on my first Tig and discounted on my current one. At £200, if you have Apple Car play or Android Auto then its probably not worth it. If its discounted or you don't use either of them, it is well worth considering. In my opinion, it understands what you say at least 95% of the time, first time although there are some words it just never gets.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to reply.
My local dealer just called me from a newly delivered R-line with standard Discover 8" system, and confirmed that gesture control and wireless Car Play both are present and working
Interestingly, in live chat with VW UK the agent stated that there is no gesture control on the 8" and this is only available on the 9.2" PRO as per the brochure lol.
Thanks again.

To be fair, the gesture control is OK...it works 90% of the time I've tried and even then, it's because I haven't put the hand quite close enough to trigger the sensors. The MIB3 hardware seems swift enough to react, even thought its not the Pro.
I used to drive a lot of different BMW for work, and their gesture control was really slow to react, even in the 7 and 8 series cars - it really struggled to detect swipes, and as for twirling your finger round & round to turn the volume up & down...

I found just driving I sometimes accidentally swiped the screen so I turned it off as it drove me nuts.

voice can be used with google maps , which i use all the time. i don't bother with the satnavs, there out of date to quick and gm gives me cameras and alternates routes by voice as well

That’s what the brochure suggest but my facelift R Line has the tacky pop up!JK-VWTiguanR wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:26 pmI have gesture control on my 2019 and turned it off, every-time I drove my hand would be too close and the gesture control would work.

Interesting, be keen to know if this is the case. Found the Heads up display really useful and have ordered again on this new model. Projection onto the windscreen sounds much better than the clunky pop up screen.....JK-VWTiguanR wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 7:13 pmOh really, perhaps it’s from the 21 reg models.Pauld888 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 4:03 pmThat’s what the brochure suggest but my facelift R Line has the tacky pop up!JK-VWTiguanR wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:26 pmI have gesture control on my 2019 and turned it off, every-time I drove my hand would be too close and the gesture control would work.
