Road noise

Post by rockman2 » Wed Feb 22, 2017 7:31 pm

Just moved fro a Golf 1.6 TDi Cab to A Pre reg Tiguan MK2 150BHP S. Only issue so far is over rough roads there is a lot more tyre noise than my Golf. No an issue. Maybe I have just been spoilt by how quiet the Golf was.

Strange, I came from a Mk7 Golf GT, and I'm finding the Golf tyre noise was far greater than the Tiguan. In fact when I first took a Tiggie for a test drive, I distinctly remember commenting about the lack of noise to the dealer.

I'm good with the tyre noise but I get a lot of wind noise from the driver's door. I'm not sure if it's the door or the noise from the wing mirror

Maybe its the type of tyres fitted. It has Montana’ 7J x 17 alloy wheels with 215/65 tyres which I think are Pirelli.

I would go and query it... maybe something random.

I have noticed how quiet it is, especially against my old A5. However, i have the 18s, so I guess it is a hell of a lot smoother than 19s and definitely more so than 20s...

I have a child, so I wanted it to be as smooth as possible as she bounced up and down a lot in the A5.

Hi The car doesn't bounce around and is pretty quiet on smooth road surfaces. If you drive on rougher tarmac its noisier. Its not noise from undulations or potholes. Maybe its just me. Will let the tyres run in a bit. Found some reviews on these tyres being noisy on other vehicles.

That's why I'm glad I've got Hankooks fitted, personally I think they are a better tyre...

Best to check the noise data on the car tyres as they quote the dBa (noise) value, the greater the value the louder.
A rough guide is that 3 dBa is double the perceived level - I think your Golf may have been fitted with 69 dBa tyres but the Tigs are all on 71 dBa irrespective of rim.

I’m picking up my new tig match next Friday, it’s the 1.5 petrol 150, it has 19; wheels, comes as standard, are they going to give me lots of road noise?

It depends on which make of tyres are fitted and what road surfaces you drive on, there is no definitive answer to your question.
