if its a none fault you can get a like for like car as a replacement but only till you get paid out once you have the cheque your hired/replacement car will have to be returned.
Yeah pretty much as I expected. Hopefully should know where I stand tomorrow but I’m fingers crossed for a cat N write off and I’d be happy with about 2.5-3k and keeping the car as salvage.
I’ve paid for Parker’s price guide with adjustments for mileage and options and it comes out at about 3.5k. Even if it gets repaired I think I’d get less than 2k when I come to sell in the summer so a settlement minus salvage deductions and the cost of an MOT to keep it running plus what I’d get back in salvage is probably the best result.
I agree with your decision. Plus ask for recommendations for a decent bodyshop from friends colleagues. I had a Escort RS2000 (1994). It had a theft attempt , most places wanted to replace the door , a classic car bodyshop panel beated around the lock , it was perfect after. Saved hundreds. My ST170 had a damaged bumper from a slight snow impact. Instead of a new bumper it was plastic welded , filler , respray. Great job less money. Or could second hand O/E parts be used?
Good luck.

So it turns out it’s a repair as they think the car is worth about £4k. Absolutely no way I’ll get that much or anywhere close when I come to sell but hey ho. They are coming back to me with a cash in lieu of repair offer and then I just need to work out what makes more sense when I’ve finished with the car in 4 months time.

So settled for a payment in lieu of repairs for £2522. Gives me back more than what I would have got in part ex and I can still repair/sell the car as I choose when the new one arrives so probably the best result all round.
