Anyone else get wheel spin on the front?

Post by Russboy » Wed Nov 06, 2019 12:17 pm

Not as in being a boy racer, but quite often I find the front wheels lose traction when turning out of a junction. I know my 230ps has decent torque so maybe that's why?

I saw on Carista there is a setting to send a bit more power to the rear wheels, called Haldex Traction, haven't changed it though:

I have the same engine and haven't experiemced any spin.

What tyres have you got. Mine are Pirelli scorpion on 19" SEL wheels.

First question to ask is does your tig actually have the haldex (4motion badge, label on gearstick) to turn on ? Mine has and it never wheelspins, but my old fed Passat would easily get provoked into it.

Not sure on the tyres, cycled to work today so don't have the car with me.

Not sure on the label on the gearstick either, has the badge on the back though:

I do have a bit of a lead foot and have never suffered wheel spin turning out of a junction (or anywhere else). I've not experienced the pull-away hesitation either with this engine which I occasionally did with my previous Mk2 Tig 180 TSI. I do find that if I leave the DSG in Sport mode, it pulls away so quickly that I sometimes have to lift quickly off the accelerator pedal causing a jerky ride but that is down to my driving and something I will need to deal with. My car runs on standard 20" Suzuka's

I have also found the fronts have spun a bit on occasion, but I've put that down to the tyres only having a few hundred on them. Mine are Continentals. The car has the 4 motion signature by the gearbox, so not just a sticker on the back :-)

I dont think you can buy the 230 engine with anything other than 4wd.
It seems your car is wheelspinning as you pull away, but this should quickly stop as the car senses this and brings the rear wheels into service.

If 4wd isnt coming in quickly, then it points to a rear diff fault.

However, if the roads are very slippery, its entirely possible that all 4 wheels are spinning!

Thanks all, sounds like it's not just me then. I do live in leafy Surrey and the bloody things are all over the roads so they don't help!

Need to ask the wife is she ever experiences it, maybe i'ts just my driving style having come from an animal 400bhp S4!

Only 609miles on my 150 dsg 4motion but have found that the front slips when pulling out of a junction. Common factor here seems to be the Scorpion tyres.
