Mpg

Post by Maxted » Fri Mar 15, 2019 6:05 pm

I have a 4motion 2ltr TDI 150bhp 5months old. My long term mpg is below 40. My journey to work mpg is 40 whereas in my Mercedes c class estate 205bhp I was getting 50 mpg and on long runs 54 against 42 with the Tiguan. I was wondering if others experience similar returns as I was expecting higher. I drive in eco mode.

I’ve had my 150 tdi 4 motion dsg RLine for 3 months now, I’ve done 3,400 miles and i have to say when i first got it, i was only getting about 39mpg on average (calculated by actual fill up rather than what the computer says), but it has gradually crept up, my last top up worked out at 46.8mpg. I fully expect this to continue to improve and am hoping to get an average of around 50mpg.

I mainly drive in either eco or normal mode, with stop start turned OFF, speed limiter set so it will go into coast mode on A/B roads and sometimes ACC on motorways and dual carriageways. I only use sport when i want to make progress. I also run the RLine tyres at 36psi for a better ride which will slightly decrease the mpg. The best I’ve seen was 53mpg over a 43 mile journey not going over 60 mph (on the way to work).

It’s impossible to compare what others are getting to either yours or mine, there are so many factors to take into consideration, from how you run it in (like you stole it or driving miss daisy) driving style, location and topography, model configuration and wheel tyre size/width, driving mode, traffic and weather conditions. What i will say is pre wltp cars are likely to have optimistic computer readouts in my experience, by about 10% or more, whereas the new Tigs have pretty accurate computer readouts, my last fill up said 47.6mpg since fill up and the actual was 46.8mpg. The other important thing to remember, the Tiguan is high off the road which makes a huge difference and it’s not that aerodynamic.
