I have to agree with you I have never had a black car but I have a feeling ile be spending quite a few sundays washing and cleaning this just to keep it looking reasonable.

Ironically it will be the washing and drying etc that will cause the marks!, the worst part for me was when it rained and then you have spots of water on the roof, then the sun comes out and burns the water dry leaving very hard to remove marks on the roof etc, then you wipe them with a microfiber and you get micro marring!!!

seeing that now I am concerned I got the deep black pearl on order...
Looking over a silver Golf daughter was picking up a few years ago the salesman said to us he was glad we hadn't chosen black, as they come with scratches mixed into the paint.

That’s a shocking state to hand over a new car in.

To be fair if you put a light across a dark car at an angle like the opening images your see these type of swirl marks unless you have had or done detailing to the paintwork.

Unfortunately dark cars show this up with this type of light reflection more then lighter cars like white. ;)

I would agree with your assessment if we were talking after a few months of service but not fridge fresh straight from the dealer. As others have said, purely the result of a lack of interest and poor washing materials/practice. I would have rejected it on collection if it was me until it was resolved.

Your be surprised but i bet if you looked at the new ones fresh off the transporter that the paint work looks like this, that's why car detailing has become a ever growing business. ;)

Perhaps with VW, I don’t know. I collected my own new car on Tuesday last week from another marque and it was blemish free. It was a lighter colour granted but I did inspect it with an led torch much to the dealers surprise.

Hence why my dealer has been instructed to not touch my car when it arrives. :)

Unfortunately the valeters at dealers don't have the time or inclination to detail/clean cars properly. I've worked at a dealership in the past and know how long they have to clean a car and it's not long. I'll spend close to 2 days cleaning, prepping and protecting my car when it arrives, there's no way I can expect a dealer to do that. They were quite shocked when I said I didn't want it cleaning and even more so when I explained that it would mean I'd have to just remove the damage they had inflicted...! :)

So it’s back from the detailers all fixed and ceramic coated too and I’m very happy with it. All marks are gone just got to keep it clean now!

Looks very nice. I should be picking mine up within the next week or so, just finding a good local detailer to me so it gets the best start
