Carwashes

Post by UnionJack » Fri Nov 08, 2019 9:02 pm

Might sound like a stupid question here, sorry ;)

I wouldn't normally take my car through an automatic carwash, but the weather is so bad (south yorkshire flood fun!) that I can't clean it at the moment and it's ditched, it needs a clean of some sort.
I'm used to smaller cars like my Golf. Do Tiguans fit in your typical carwash at Sainsbury's petrol station, or will it take the roof off?

See, I told you it was a daft question. Please feel free to reply with daft replies... As long as someone says whether it's ok to take it through a wash ;)

Leave it filthy.
Muck on the paint isnt doing anymore harm in the short term.

However, any auto car wash can seriously do more harm.....

The Tiguan isn't a big car, it will easily fit in a standard car wash, although personally I wouldn't go down that route. If you don't have a power washer yourself take it to a local garage and jet wash it yourself to get the worst of the dirt off, should only cost a couple of £, then do whatever you usually do to wash it.

A car wash will scratch the hell out of your paint. You’d be better going to a jet wash and just jet washing the worst off (don’t use the brush).

I use one of my local hand car wash facilities.

They do a damn good job and it only costs £7.

How long you keeping the car for? This time of year it's going to get dirty pretty quickly. I'm not a big fan of car washes myself, however in the past couple of years I have dropped my old lease Leon Cupra and Wifes Yeti into the local IMO for a £3 wash when it was really filthy. The main problem was I the Diamond Alloys on the Cupra got scratched by the guide bars at some point which really pissed me off on a lease car. Would I take my Tiguan through? well it won't damage the 19" wheels but I'm not confident it won't kill something else and this car we're intending to keep.

Yeah, it'll be fine. I use a local BP when I'm too lazy/busy to wash it myself.

No car wash for me, would not even use the hand wash people, i have watched them clean one car then using the same cloth move onto the next car transferring all the dirt and grit into your paint work.

Rather have the the most dirty car in the street then do either.

No way would I put my car through one of those. Imagine those bristles smashing into your paintwork, let alone bashing all that muck and the previous guys muck against your paintwork. You might as well clean your car with a brillo pad.

Just find a garage with a jet-wash and blast it off at the very least. Then you can give it a quick sponge bath (or wash mitt bath if you prefer) when you get home and you'll feel much more awesome!
