R Line steering wheel peeling...help!

Post by MacBeth » Mon Dec 02, 2019 2:26 pm

Hi all,
Car has 100 miles on it and the steering wheel covering is peeling off. There didn’t seem to be a defect on it but we’ve only been able to drive at night / evenings after work.
Only noticed it now that a bit has peeled off.
Have contacted dealer with photo (as below) and waiting to hear back.
I’m pretty sure this can be replaced under warranty, just looking for a bit of reassurance and if anyone else has had this?
Cheers
Mac

Good luck with the warranty claim, what’s the betting that the dealer argues you caught it with something sharp 😗

it certainly dent look like its just peeled off, something sharp has scratched the coating off, the issue is did you do it or was it present when you picked it up.

Nothing sharp has been anywhere near it with us - no rings or such like.
I think the scratch must have been there to start with and has graduated to a peel with use.

Yeah good luck with dealer - I had a paint blemish on roof edge (looked like a 3mm drip from somewhere which resulted in a paint 'pit'). I didn't notice for about a week. Reported it to dealer who swore blind it wouldn't have been there at handover as he had 100% faith in prep guys would have spotted it otherwise.

Sorry i have to agree with some of the others it looks like something has caught the steering wheel by accident.

Might not have been you but it certainly has been caught.

It will depend on how much your dealer values your future possible business as to if they replace the item under warranty.

Understood, the bit peeling off has happened because the ‘cut’,’slash’ has opened at that point through use of the wheel - if that makes sense. I’m sure that the cut wasn’t caused by us.
I checked that car over including the roof and wheels and made sure it all worked but didn’t see that little bit on the wheel.
I guess if they won’t change it I’ll have to get a cover to stitch on - which could be amusing with my nonexistent haberdashery skills....

I've caught my steering wheel a couple of times, I tend to wear cargo trousers and if the thigh pockets have zips that'll do it.

If they won’t cover it under warranty, you could perhaps try a leather repair company, there are quite a few about, same type of company who would fix damaged leather sofas etc.
