I use to have a Skoda Superb which had the 9.2 Infotainment unit which is the same as the Discovery ‘Pro’ unit in the VW Tiguan. I didn’t think it was any better than the normal discovery unit I have in my Tiguan. Sound quality is just as good and the only difference which I thought was cool was the facility to play DVD’s through it. I’d definitely cancel the Pro discovery unit and get the Vienna leather upholstery instead.

I have just ordered a R Line Tech and decided to go with the standard Discover Navigation. My justification against the Pro was 1:6... 9.2 Inch Screen (Yes it looks nice), 3D Maps, Voice Control (Can use Siri or Google Assistant), Built-In Data Sim (Dongle will do the same), 64GB HDD (SD Card will do the same and it's easier to organise files via a laptop), Video Playback (Really???). OK granted looking after a SD Card and a Dongle is a small effort but it's far cheaper than the £1500 cost of the Pro.

For the Sat Nav, you are referring to Car-Net Inform and Guide, which comes at standard on the R Line Tech, and gives you POIs and Traffic Alerts, Weather etc however you just need an internet connection for that which you can use your phone or better with a Dongle.

From what I can gather the Car-Net Security & Service is completely separate irrespective of the navigation option that you have. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not I will have the Basic or Plus and if its the former how you activate the Plus features. Where does its 'always on' communication for this come from? Its own dedicated Data SIM?

complete waste of money for me.

Use apple car play, you then get the most up to date sat nav and it takes you direct to the address not the post code. :? also you have cameras and other set up options.

sign up to google play or iTunes and you can play all you music from your phone and its on you all the time. I have 90 albums and I have made up my own play lists.

on top of that you can pick genres, much decade and so much more.
The phone interface is better to. Don't waste you money put it on something that is always yours. :D

I've been playing FLAC from an SD card and it knocks spots off Tidal at the best setting through car play, its a bit of a chew loading files etc though. I gave up using my macbook and am trying to get by with my ipad pro, I can do most things but not all so far.

The only real advantage on the Pro is that with the navigation on the internal drive this frees up an SD slot for other uses. I use the USB slot for music, one SD slot for audio books and another for podcasts etc . Doing it this way I can switch sources and not lose my place in any of them. The Pro is standard equipment in Oz so I didn't have to fork out extra money and I am not sure I would. I have never used the internal storage for anything because of the extra SD slot and as pointed out above managing and changing stuff on the internal drive is a good way to give you a serious drinking problem. I also had a Superb and installed a 128GB HDD in it and it took ages to add and remove stuff so I learnt my lesson there.
