Flat Battery

Post by tmg349 » Mon Jun 29, 2020 5:51 pm

Hi folks, since the lockdown and lack of regular use I have been having battery problems. If the Tig is left for more than a week, the battery does not have enough charge to start the vehicle. First issue took place after 10 weeks, so expected. After a long run, the car failed again after 1 week. After a very long run of 260 miles, the car failed again after 10 days.
Do I need to consider a replacement battery?

Sounds like you could need a new battery. As you have an October 2017 car provided you haven't covered too many miles your Tiguan is still under the 3 year warranty.

Do you have breakdown cover, if so call them and they should test the battery for you before giving you a jump start, or if you can drive to your VW garage where they can test it and fit a new one if required.

If it does need a new battery it will need coding to the car so if done anywhere other than a VW dealer (or VW breakdown) make sure they know how to do it first.

You could always try a charger too, ctek msx5 are very good. I put ours on for 2 weeks then move it to my car for 2 weeks and so on and so forth....

Having had issues with the battery on a brand new car i would not be holding my breath.

If they find the battery voltage is low they will charge the battery and then apparently they do a battery test and if the battery is found to pass there test they will send you on your way telling you to either charge the battery if being left for long periods or drive more.

Not the answer you want but the answer your get from them for sure.
