New Tiguan R revealed

Post by Rob » Tue Jun 30, 2020 10:25 pm

The Volkswagen Tiguan has gained a new 316bhp R range-topper and a plug-in hybrid powertrain as part of a major mid-life refresh.

The new Tiguan R joins the larger Touareg R as part of the performance division’s rapidly expanding line-up. It uses the fourth-generation EA888 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Performance and efficiency details have yet to be disclosed.

As usual, this four-cylinder unit is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, four-wheel drive and the Dynamic Chassis Control system, which lowers the ride height by 10mm.

Hey new here. Taking delivery of my new Tiguan this Friday. I didn’t know there was a new model coming out,

Would it be worth cancelling and waiting?

No. Theres not enough change to make it worth waiting. And some things that are much worse than current like capacitive buttons. See the other thread about the Tiguan and Q5 facelift.

Only you can answer your own question.

Now you know there is a revised version how will you feel driving a brand new 'old' model when it arrives.

Think very carefully before Friday and make sure you are happy with whatever decision you come to.

VW seem to be making the Tiguan worse with every incarnation.
They did it with the MY20 changes, and now by all accounts they’re doing it again.

Totally agree - you're getting a fantastic new car so enjoy it and don't get sucked into the upgrade-itis marketing trap... You would probably have to wait a long time (and pay a lot more) for the new model anyway so enjoy your R-line tech and put thoughts of the newer model in the bank for your next change (By which time it will have changed again!)

Thanks guys for all the replies. Going by the sounds of it I think I’ll stick with my model and wait till a few years until a complete redesign.

I have only had my new Tiguan II SEL 2.0 TSi 190PS DSG 4Motion for two days and I love it - the 190PS engine is plenty quick enough for me.

I don’t like the Golf Mk.8 style headlights or poncy grill/bumper

Just watched a YouTube video of the new R and it’s got the tacky Halfords door lights that project an R onto the ground.
Also noticed the clock is back on the AID.
All in all though, I prefer the look of my 2018 R-Line.
