A new added feature to the latest edition of Tiguan. Me n the missus went for a cruise last night as the kids were having a Halloween party ;) . Whilst on the motorway on ACC there was some muppet hogging the middle lane   , this new version of ACC would not allow me to undertake. A nice touch I thought :D , although it did mean I had to go around the swine.

Or just put your foot down to override the ACC till you've passed it.

Why do you need to undertake when there's 3 lanes?
In my case, sometimes the slip road branches off from the outer lane and I wish to keep my speed to pass the car in the lane that continues forward. So not officially "undertaking" as such, just passing in designated lane.

On the M3 "smart motorway" junctions near me, my Tiguan will undertake as soon as the white line configuration changes at the 1/2 mile marker, assuming that you are in the exit lane. it may even work back as far as the mile marker but I've not tested that one.

Smart car, not so smart motorway though, I hate having no hard shoulder

As it was a leisurely drive and i had time to kill, i went around him. Several times just to see if he noticed what he was doing   not once did he twig what i was doing.

i didnt need to undertake, I was going to just drive alongside him to annoy him but it wouldnt let me. also why should he get away with sitting in the middle lane it just proves that he was a knuckle dragger who does not know how to drive, or an entitled prick who thinks the law doesnt apply to him.

There are lots of bad drivers but that no excuse to undertake for no other reason than hes annoyed you, not when there is an empty lane to the right that's the correct way to overtake in the UK.

Personally i don't have a problem with middle lane hoggers if they are doing over 70 mph.

I find it odd you say you should overtake on the right which is obviously correct, but then you go on to say nothing wrong with middle lane hoggers if they are doing over 70mph. If the inside lane is clear you should move to that lane regardless of whether you are doing 70mph or less.
We all know over 70mph is illegal in the UK, and middle lane hoggers can now face a fine of £100 and 3 points on their licence.

Middle lane hoggers bottleneck the whole motorway to only 1 lane to get past them, so many times I've seen traffic back up trying to get round the, just because of an idiot sitting in the middle lane for no reason. Particularly noticeable on the m25 when there are 5 or more lanes and they sit on the 1 from the outside despite nothing being in the 2 lanes to the left of them, Should all have their licence taken off em.

:)

Theres little point in constantly changing lanes at the speed limit, i find it amusing to see drivers move from the 3rd lane and move into the lhs lane for 100 yards before moving into the middle lane and then the 3rd.

Its slow drivers that cause congestion not lane hoggers.

If I am in the inside lane on a motorway and come up to a middle lane hogger, I then need to change lanes four times to get past him and carry on driving in the correct lane. It is against the law to hog the middle lane. Does anyone know how many prosecutions there have been for it?

This can be coded via VCDS

Disable Overtaking on Right Prevention (Undertaking)
Allows ACC equipped RHD vehicles to overtake on the left side, which is blocked by default.
Adaptive Cruise Control (Module 13)
Security code 20103
Long Coding
Byte 2. Bit 5
Overtaking_right_prevention
New Value Deactivated

Unless the law has changed, if you are in lane 1and you come up to a slower moving vehicle in lane 2, you DO NOT have to move to lane 3 to get past them, you can continue in lane 1. The undertaking law comes in to force when you come up behind a slower moving vehicle in lane 3 or 2 and THEN MOVE to lane 2 or 1 to pass them.
Without wanting to sound too "Brexit", I believe this issue has been compounded by the amount of European drivers adopting this country and still thinking that lane 3 is their lane 1.

It doesn't stop undertaking, you just have to blip the gas pedal to override it.
