Took delivery of my PHEV yesterday. Plugged it in about 3pm to charge the battery on cheap electricity starting at midnight so it was timed to start them. At 1am the car alarm went off. I managed to silence it using the fob but that was it, I couldn't open the car or do anything. The handbrake and start button were illuminated though. I opened it with the manual key and nothing completely dead.

Volkswagen Assist came out today to check it and it turns out that this is a known problem I wasn't advised of yesterday. If the charge cable is inserted in the car without charging taking place the canbus is live and drawing current from the 12v battery. The advice from the technician was to only plug the cable in when you are going to charge it and immediately charging is finished unplug the cable from the car. Allegedly there is a software fix due to come for this in the next few weeks that will need to be installed at the dealership it won't be an over the air update. Apparently I was unlucky that it happened on day 1 of ownership for some Tiguan owners it happens after 2-3 weeks and not to all PHEV MK3 Tiguan's!!!

I am not impressed with this as had I known the car could have stayed at the dealers until the software update was available.

I really hope they sort this issue out for you guys as they must realise the importance of it. I don’t understand how it’s taking so long as if I’ve read correctly, it was possible to do to start with and they took it away.
Me too, allegedly the software update is due this month. Doesn't help not being able to make use of cheap overnight electricity.

This has just happened to me. The car was plugged in last night but I forgot to approve the plug in on my ohme app duh. The alarm went off in the night and this morning the 12v was flat. The VW Assist guy was with me quickly and said this is a known issue so booked me into VW on 17th April for the update. I think this will mean I can't charge overnight now as the charging schedule isn't the full night so I risk a repeat scenario?
I was told to make sure I only plugged it in when I actually wanted to charge it not put it on a timer and to ensure that I unplugged it the moment it was fully charged or the 12v would go flat. So that is what I have been doing. Interesting that you have a date for the update I will telephone my dealer tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment.

Rang the dealers today and they say still no update available for my car. @hepworthproperty can you let me know how you get on on the 17th please? It will give me ammunition to go back to my dealer.

Well after having my 2025 PHEV all week VW have confirmed that my car cannot be schedule / timer charged and so as far as I am concerned it is not fit for purpose. As a result they are processing my rejection of the car. Very disappointed as I found it a good car but what is the point of having a PHEV that you cannot charge with cheap overnight electricity? They say the fix for this issue is due to be available in Q3 this year!! No way I am waiting that long for such a fundamental piece of functionality as this.

OK, dealers are not always the best source of information, thats why these forums work so well, I have many times been into the dealer and told them something and they were not aware or did not know or VW had not told them.
This was allegedly after passing the diagnostic information to Germany and was the answer they were given from there. However, whether that is the truth who knows.
