However being my luck I am uncertain if the leak has been fully resolved.

Car is going into dealership tomorrow to get a damage fixed which was present before sale and I have mentioned to them about the leak. Going to push them to put a new seal.
I'm assuming that any work you've done on trying to sort the leak isn't likely to affect any warranty you may have agreed to when purchasing the car?.

Steve
Honestly speaking I have not modified anything that may affect the warranty. I wouldn't have expected the technicians to go into the lengths of removing the bumper and then investigating the leak. I simply sealed the area with Tiger seal.

The silicon seal I put around the boot seal is household seal and I will remove it before I take the car to them. It was mainly to investigate if it cured the leak.

I feel I have been alot patient with the car and if it was somebody else would have rejected the car. I can't enjoy driving the car around with the fear in the back of my head that i will soon be greeted with a boot leak.

Well guys it rained quite a bit yesterday and it seems like my latest diagnose of the boot seal failing is true. So the area where I applied silicon prevented any further leaks to the boot area.

Car is in dealership getting a body damage fixed and I have mentioned about the boot seal. So lets see if they can replace it? If not then will install it myself. I don't suppose the seal to be mega bucks....

Thank you for the links :)

However if I was going to change the seal I would like to go for a branch new.

Well guys the last time I was on here the boot leak was Identified as the Boot seal and I ended up replacing it with a brand new from Dealers and it cured the leak issue. However only today I took it to shops for some important essentials, I thought I may check the wheel well thinking it will be fine. To my horror the damn leak is back :| :? This week it rained continuously for 4 -5 days here in Manchester including some snow lastnight.

After replacing the boot seal the car has seen all weather conditions and sat in airport carpark for 2 weeks and there were no noticeable leaks. I am totally mind blown as to what is causing the leak now? It is leaking at the exact same location with all similar symptoms?

Has the boot seal failed again? :? :(

Hi mate, i have just purchased a 2018 tiguan and i have a very similar leak in the boot, seems to have the same run as yours looking at your pics. However i tipped abit of water in by the fuel cap area after drying out the boot and then noticed there was water running back in, so i think my problem is the seal or drain pipe in the fuel cap area ?

Hi Guys,

Just acquired a 2016 Tiguan SE Nav and so far loving the drive and built quality of VW.

However, I have found my first leak in the Tyre well as I was having a nosy in the spare tyre area and found a small puddle in the wheel well

So I quickly mopped it and made sure the area was dry. So did a small inspection and found the foam where jack sits to be slightly wet? I am not sure if there is a possible leak or some drain is blocked (still new to tiguan) but I am going to keep an eye on it. Just praying previous owner has spilled some water? (trying to think positive)

However any suggestions of where to check and also where the drains could be so I can make sure there is no leak?

Thanks

Hi We have a Tiguan Mk 2 and had lots of water in the boot tyre well which was worse in heavy rain.
I solved the issue by first replacing the neoprene seals to the rear light units which were also leaking and are very easy to remove.
That stopped one leaking area which was mainly on the nearside of the car. I would advise replacing all the seals on N/S and O/S rear light clusters (body and tailgate)
I still found water in the well and found that the head-lining was wet at the rear on the nearside where the electrical wire harness connected the tailgate to the rain water gutter at the top next to the tail gate hinge.
The rubber gator looked fine but was not a good seal, so I purchase a tube of vehicle black silicon sealant (the same as used for windscreens) pulled out the gator applied the sealant all around the rubber gators (both sides) and pressed it back into the hole and then smoothed it all around the gator and body joint.
The sealant takes a day to fully cure and I would advise not to used the vehicle and let it cure fully.
FYI

Hi! You should check water drain pipe. It should looks like on my pictures.

If you see that the tube is installed differently in my photos, you need to remove the plug, then the fuel filler hatch mechanism. Next, pull the tube out as far as possible (do not pull too hard). Lubricate the tube and rubber casing with silicone. Put the hatch mechanism back, but not all the way. Hold the tube with two fingers of one hand and slide the rubber casing over it with the other hand. The tube flange should be located between one protrusion and three ridges of the rubber boot. Fully install the fuel filler flap.

Now you need to pour some water into the fuel tank flap compartment. The water should drain under the car.
