I'm not sure this is a new problem - if you G**gle
vw travel assist currently unavailable
you'll find reports dating back to 2015 right across VW/Audi/Skoda models.

Didn't say it was a new problem, I've been on this forum since day 1 and the mytiguan since 2015, of course it's popped up since it was introduced.

What I did say is that the recent spate of it appearing consistently with turning of the steering wheel IS new. So the poster I was replying to shouldn't assume the cause of his issue is the steering wheel as the recent issues would suggest.

Went to my local dealers yesterday about the traffic assist problem, spoke to the Service Manager and was pleasantly surprised. They knew about the problem, said VW had published a TPI? about it and he said he had several steering wheels on order. Said it was more common on cars with the heated steering wheel but not exclusive. Golfs, Polos, IDs and now Tiguans were presenting with the fault.
My car must have scared itself, after 3 weeks on "bonging" incessantly every time I turned the wheel since I left the dealer yesterday it hasn't done it since, bloody typical, we have all been there, had a fault and then went to the dealers and not able to reproduce it.
My car is booked in next week for them to check the fault codes and if it tallies with the VW bulletin he will order a new steering wheel. Hope the fault codes are stored in memory

Glad your Stealers were receptive to the issue. Hope it sorts it for you soon

I too have this issue, my Tiguan is a 71 (Nov 2021) so had it just over a year, I'm booked in for 20th Feb (earliest I could get in) I am logging from now until then, every possible trigger, but the likely cause (IMO) is something to do with the heated seats and steering wheel. Every time either one of these are put on it pings on and off for the whole journey, my vehicle is in use 2 hours a day every day minimal.

Nothing covers the sound of the pinging and it's beginning to drive me insane!. Sensors are all clean, if I turn on the heated seat or steering wheel it will do it continuously for the rest of the journey even when this is then turned off. But then again sometimes it does happen ever so randomly.

I did a short 7 minute journey 2 weeks ago and it went off like I had no seatbelt on! (I of course had my seatbelt on) it's strange that VW haven't found a solution to fix this issue yet, or at least so you can turn the annoying pinging off on it!. I've seen that a replacement steering wheel has only been a temporary fix for some.

Car went into dealer yesterday (22 plate elegance 1.5dsg) for diagnostic check after TA problem. Confirmed new steering wheel required, approx 7 weeks lead time but could be earlier and about half a day to fit. It's still driving me nuts with the noise!

I've had enough of these VW issues,Golf 8R had too many issues to remember so long gone,Tig R then decided it would develop the continuous travel assist issue so its replacement has now been ordered (not VAG) after my wife only owning it for 10 months.

See post #22, my view is this is a specific cause that has only occurred since a new version of the steering wheel has been fitted in NEW cars.

There are many other causes of this, and it's probably not the cause if your issue.

If you dont mind can you tell me what you have got as a Tig replacement for your wife. I have had 6 Tigs and am beginning to regret buying this one. I am thinking of selling while I'm getting good offers but am at a loss as to what to replace it with.
Thank You

Just adding my one to the mix, I get the 'Travel assist currently unavailable' a few minutes after starting the car from cold it will then disappear after a few minutes and then reappear 2-3 time over the next 20 mins and then clear for the rest of the drive (does this every time I start from cold) have it booked into the dealers on March 6th for investigation etc.

I've ordered an X3M40i as a replacement for the Tiguan R,pre Tiguan had an X3M Comp which was a bit harsh ride wise and after test driving it and the M40i recently the latter was definitely better suited for our roads.

Between now and June/July when the BMW is due to arrive i'm expecting various issues to arise with the Tiguan from what myself and many others have experienced with VWs over the past few years.

On another note if I dont use the heated seats or heated wheel at all making sure they are always off the travel assist error does not happen, could just be coincidence.

My car is going into the garage next week for this issue. It's less than a year old and it can sometimes happen every 5 seconds for a whole journey. It's making the car unusable. If I had to wait 7 weeks for a new one I think I'd be looking at ways to return the car to VW and cancel PCP. Must have some rights under a year old

Do we not have any rights to cancel the PCP seeing as the car is less than a year old and quite clearly not fit for purpose

While there is a fix, it's unlikely

But a 7 week wait as mentioned above is not a ideal outcome. If the car is beeping at you every 10 seconds it's not suitable and I'd expect to be able to cancel or have a hire car that entire time
You can only ask
