So I did further research on this and I was thinking that the system should also be possible to calibrate and I got to know of the ADAS Calibration (Advanced Driver Assisted Steering).
My local Kwik Fit plus offered this service so I booked it in and took it today - they had the car for 4 hours calibrating the car (I could see from the viewing area) and after 4hours came back and said that the software came up with 5 unknown error codes and although having the latest software for the car; it was still showing as 'Unknown Error' and not the actual fault.
He said he could calibrate the radar fine but when it came to the actual camera in the windscreen that was not accepting the calibrated values and threw up the error code.

So I guess I will have to bite the bullet and go VW - my guess is that the Camera in the windscreen is faulty - does anyone have any experience of changing this?

I've ordered an X3M40i as a replacement for the Tiguan R,pre Tiguan had an X3M Comp which was a bit harsh ride wise and after test driving it and the M40i recently the latter was definitely better suited for our roads.

Between now and June/July when the BMW is due to arrive i'm expecting various issues to arise with the Tiguan from what myself and many others have experienced with VWs over the past few years.

On another note if I dont use the heated seats or heated wheel at all making sure they are always off the travel assist error does not happen, could just be coincidence.

This happens to mine i've kept a log, mines gone in today, its very random did it a few times when the indicator was on for right turning and turning the steering wheel right around a round about. when heated seats or steering wheel is put on, it being one of the many features I decided to go with a Tiguan, pinged 5 times in the 15 minute journey and also my autonomous breaking system went off randomly today too, the stitching on my rear seat has come undone on the pocket and the back windscreen wiper is being annoying and loud and screeching, no wear to it? so ive pointed those out as well as leaving the book i've logged the number of times it goes off. 20 times in a 5 minute window, iv'e even done the software updates on it ( funny how when I called to book it in later that day my system came up 'software update available' is this something they can push through by knowing the car's VIN? I didn't think it was coincidence at all). Its so annoying and not something I can live with unfortunately so if it can't be fixed they will be having it back!

I feel your frustrations and to be honest the faults across many of the VW range of vehicles isnt good enough, you sound like you have more than your fair share of issues with your car.

I put the heated wheel on again the other day when driving my wifes car and before even getting out the street the pings were coming fast and furious.Have again kept the heated wheel/seats off and no pings.

At least for me the end is in sight due to the sale of the car happening later this year.

I cant speak for other models like R line,Elegance etc but I'd say the R is ridiculously overpriced for what you get.If I hadn't got such a huge discount when ordering I'd be rather pi**ed off paying so much for what we actually got.

Honestly mine is the R-Line,

I asked if there was any way to turn off the noise (I have been told there is but I obviously can't mess with it being a lease vehicle i'm not risking it, turning the travel assist on the system doesn't stop the pinging either) whilst awaiting the replacement steering wheel which are on back order and he said it could be months - 3 months or so?

He said no they can't turn it off, so I said well I can't cope with it, also the autonomous breaking system sometimes goes off randomly but I don't know if that to do with the sensitivities of the sensors I could tinker with.

VW said 'we need the courtesy vehicle back' Motability (as my son is non verbal autistic aged 8) have told me not to hand the vehicle back until they get back to me with a resolution.

I don't know where we go from here as it technically is a known VW

fault, had I known about this issue having a autistic child I wouldn't have chose it let alone paid an upfront advance payment of over £4,000.

I had the pano and full size (18) spare which came to over £1,000 extra so if they have it back ill be requesting my refund on those extras for sure.

I'm waiting for a call back by tomorrow 5pm from Motability with a resolution as 3 months wait is not reasonable at all for someone who uses their car 2 hours every day.

It was originally a choice between the X1 which is no longer on the scheme, Tiguan and a Kuga.

So it would have to be a Kuga if I have to replace, which I don't mind I sometimes regret getting the Tiguan, it's beautiful but all this faulty tech isn't worth its looks IMO.

Still i'm really upset by it all, extra stress I don't need as well as going to court over my sons education, preparing evidence and arguments, after he was assautled (bitten and scratched until he bled twice) at school he's meant to have a 1:1 he can't tell me what goes on, loosing all trust in the world!

Been advised my Motability to complain to VW about the issue and the treatment by staff a well as the state of the courtesy vehicle.

:(

It really sounds like you are stuck,I would definitely complain about a grubby courtesy car and the way you have been treated.

Sorry to hear about your son,if that happened to either of my kids I'd be irate also and certainly have elevated stress levels over the whole situation.

The local VW dealer to me is beyond useless which is why I never reported the recent faults to them and decided it would be less frustrating to replace the car(I know I'm very fortunate to be able to do this).

We were lucky and purchased the R outright so will get rid as soon as the M40i arrives,my wife added every optional extra apart from Akrapovic exhaust and tow bar yet still couldn't get on with the Tiguan.
I only have myself to blame since I suggested she order one due to having had a few VWs in the past although never looking inside a Tiguan.

The car had a list of around £56k at the time we ordered and no way should it be close to this, material quality, poorly supportive leather seats(sides) slow throttle response compared to other manufacturers and a bland looking dash even with the pro nav are just a couple of my gripes.

I hope you and the many others with faulty cars get the issues sorted one way or another.

My problem is after having a Golf 8R(also sold) which was plagued with continuous issues no matter the amount of fixes during 17 months of ownership I've lost faith with VW.The issues with the Golfs are on another level,so many cars including vehicles recently produced have got many of the same issues which is shocking from VW and implies they simply do not care.

I have to agree with you, with not much difference between the R line and the R, the price difference is considerable my car was £39k something so just under the £40k luxury car tax threshold.

I am lucky to be able to buy a second hand car if I needed to, it was just nice in our situation to be able to have something new and at the end of lease pay below forecourt price as its classed as second hand even though I'd have had it from new.

Just the amount lease cost for Motability you can't get anywhere HP or PCP. So in that aspect we are very lucky, Its around £280 a month including insurance and breakdown. Hence our decision to sell up and go on the scheme.

However I'm more adamant that I don't want the vehicle back and will be telling Motability tomorrow, I have already informed them i'm on this forum and it seems the problem isn't isolated and there isn't a guaranteed fix.

I can't handle the what if's and the customer service at VW has been shocking, they lack empathy and understanding.

More worried about having their dirty courtesy car back, Im definitely emailing in a complaint, I originally wasn't going to but after how short the technician was with me, they can get lost.

I have similar intermittent issues with Travel Assist at the moment. 2021 Elegance that had a new steering wheel a couple of weeks after collection in Jan 21. This has started playing up again after an online software update about 3 weeks ago, maybe it’s related to the update? Does not do this all the time but quite random.

See I did the update two weeks ago and since then it goes off about half as much but still goes off none the less. still annoying and something I can't live with.

UPDATE

VW contacted me to apologise for the courtesy car, have contacted VW and it's July now for the replacement steering wheel, 5 months not 3!

Thankfully Motability got back to me and i've got a courtesy car either option, i've chosen the latter to return the Tiguan and order something else, beautiful car but practicality and functioning matters to me more than looks.

I've also got to request a refund for the optional extras direct from the dealership I paid over £1k for these, I'll be asking for a quiet word with the manager when I hand back the courtesy vehicle, take them their reg's pick my reg's and bits up from the car and wave goodbye to it. Probably be the first and last VW I have in all honesty.

Rang my local dealer yesterday, still waiting for my "call back" Guess where my 2yr servicing pack I bought with the Tig will not be going. Rang another dealer (different chain) about 30 miles away and they said not aware of any issues and there are no updates but it could be a server down ??? She alluded to a SOS call fault a few days ago (which I did have, which cleared the next time I started the car, was down to a server error?) The bad news is that if I book it it they will want it for a couple of days to try and replicate the fault. All they have to do is to drive round the block and turn the steering wheel and it will alarm. I.m getting sick of it now, I'll see how it goes over the weekend and take it from there. I don't suppose you can call VW Assist because it's not really a breakdown?
We did call Assist - the guy came and ran diagnostics & said it was indeed a ‘traffic assist’ fault and requires a new steering wheel to rectify it. He sees it a LOT in new Tigs. Took to dealership who insisted they have it a full day to run diagnostics themselves - got same result, and steering wheels in high demand and on a minimum 10 week back order, and nothing they can do to stop the error message and chime in the meantime.

My Local Garage informed me they contacted VW directly who insisted a replacement wouldn't be available until July and the high demand being 100,000's of them across the whole range of VW models with the same steering wheel in so not just Tigs, If I were you I would check again and get it in writing, they could be giving you a 'reasonable timeframe' then when it comes closer to it to inform you that it is indeed a bit longer.

You have the right under consumer rights act to hand the vehicle back for a refund if it is unable to be fixed within a reasonable timeframe, as I have done.

If you have the car on HP or PCP or another type of financed Lease, you have a third party who can intervene, however your rights remain the same if you purchased it outright and it is a 'known fault' and its a manufacturing fault and not a consumer.

I don't know whether anyone has had this happen, but on a quick shufty up to Llandudno at the weekend, the + and - pads on the steering wheel didn't seem to alter the set cruise speed for a few minutes here and there. Has happened once further this week. I don't know whether this might be a contributing factor to the warnings pinging up. All the sensors at the front, side and screen were clear.

Garage have informed me I am on a waiting list for steering wheel change, but from earlier posts here I won't be holding my breath long for a prompt recall !!

It is a wait for months, they would be best; ‘issuing a recall’ but I think at the moment they are dealing with it ‘underhand’ because they know people will be entitled to their legal rights to a refund if it can’t be fixed within a ‘reasonable’ time.

I handed mine back and having a battle with them for the refund due, but the impact the continuous noise has had on me and my son, I’m now in talks with a solicitor for a pre action letter to get my refund before proceeding with court as it’s a known issue and in forums far and wide across the VW range!

UPDATE

Car went in for diagnostics at VW - they said (according to their computer) a new camera is needed and there is a minimum 3week leadtime and a nice price to change it ☺

Found an original camera off the marketplace (same model and version - virtually brand new) and with a YouTube video changed it over in the space of 20mins

Called a local ADAS calibration company who came out and calibrated the camera and now the lane assist, adaptive cruise control works!

Only thing still showing error is Dynamic Road Sign Display 😔 (which I can live without as the speed sign is on Google maps and on the road itself 😂)

Dealer rang today, replacement steering wheel arrived (mk3?) Car booked in for Wednesday, supposed to be a four hour job
Please update us once changed.

Car went in for change of steering wheel today, waited for it, duration 3 hrs. Seems OK at the moment but time will tell. I'll keep the forum updated. The lo temp pinged when we were out and my wife said "not again", just shows how much it was bugging us.
Just as an aside I got a valuation from car wow before the plate change at approx £30800, While I was waiting for the car I got an email from carwow for £31600, this is after the plate change. Go figure

I had my camera changed for this issue and within two weeks the fault reappeared. I then had the steering wheel changed last June, but over the last few weeks the issue has come back.
