Coming across an issue with my Tiguan 2017 2.0, 7 speed dsg auto - 45300miles on the clock. After 35mins of driving roughly the emergency gearbox mode (you can drive on) comes up and goes into limp mode. I then switch of the engine and it goes back to normal for 20 mins then message comes back. If I leave the car overnight, it drives fine Asif nothing is wrong until it's all warmed up roughly 30mins of driving then back into emergency mode only gears 2 4 and 6. My friend plugged it into his basic code reader and fault P0805 clutch positioning sensor circuit came up. Any ideas what this could be or anyone came across similar issues? I've read about mechtronic box failure but surely not being 2017 and only 45300 on the clock, and of course out of warranty. Cheers
What was the issue? My car did exactly this this morning

How did you fix this problem pls

I have a 2018 R-Line also done 46K, took it in for service last week and have had the same Gear Box error today. I love the car so was thinking of swapping for another R-Line but reading all the comments above I think I'll have to talk to them about the mechatronics. If they agree to change it then cool. Car is still under warranty and that even confuses me the more as I'm not sure to swap for another one and if I do what's the probability that I won't face the same issue. Can someone please confirm if the change of he mechatronics as mentioned by others above fixes the issue. Thanks

Had to have my mechatronic unit changed changed also at 52k miles. Love the car but will move another make [Kia?] with a 7 yrs guarantee next. Pity!

Tiguan 2018 75,000 miles

I have been reading every thread I could find over the past few days as I have had this same error come up, gears 2,4,6 after driving for 20 miles, short journeys not affected etc...

the ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁs it was going to cost was making me sweat but had no choice other than taking it into the VW dealer.

After ÂŁ140!!! diagnostics they confirmed it was the gearbox mechatronic unit but 'luckily' there is a repair package for ÂŁ1300 it so I'm avoiding replacement for ÂŁ3000.

My dealer has only had 3 Tiguans with this issue so I asked if VW would be willing to help me out. The chap asked on my behalf and called back saying VW will cover 100% of the parts and 30% of the labour cost. So i'll be looking at around ÂŁ250 for the labour. Now, this I do count myself lucky!

I guess for this kind of failure its always worth asking if VW will help out, my dealer didn't know about this discount until I asked him to ask on my behalf. Obviously each case will be slightly different but I hope some of you in the future may be able to save some ÂŁÂŁÂŁ from asking the question

Note. Before I asked to the dealer to ask VW I explained that I had used VW for all my services and gearbox oil change at 40,000 miles so I had followed their instruction on looking after the engine. Which may have helped my case?!

VW have previously done black friday sales on servicing, I'm going to look out for the 'All-in package' with the warranty for extra piece of mind.

I have the same error message popped up. Gear box in emergency mode you can drive on. I am in Australia and called up VW Castle Hill they said it should be ok to drive as the message is clear now. Thoughts? I am trying to book in for diagnostics but the wait time is horrendous. Almost a month. The worse part we had day trips planned due to the holiday season.

Hi. This problem is a disgrace. My husband had this car and I inherited it. It’s lovely but in the last year I have spent nearly £5k. Cam belt, servicing, brakes, tyres and mechatronics unit . Now, just 7 months later same message is flashing up when I start the car. It’s been back in the garage and they can’t find a fault and cleared the message £60, but two weeks later same message again. Got to get rid. Never VW DSG again. Same thing happened to grandsons Golf and he had to go into debt to get it fixed.
VW should hold their hands up on this one. It should be a recall for all.

If the garage have already changed the mechatronics unit then they should be sorting this for free, as that's all there is, a standard mechanical gearbox and an electromechanical controller, the mechatronics.

Sounds to me like they didn't do a proper job first time out, but won't admit it.

Note, there are millions of DSG drivers not having a problem, and thousands with Torque converters and CV transmissions that are also having problems. I'm very sorry you are having a problem, but its not endemic, its just random roll of the dice you've had a problem.

Thanks for your comment. i Called the garage today to report the repeated message and they say it needs selector (solenoid or something) changed. Three week wait for part from Germany and - guess what - a bill for over ÂŁ1,000.
Made my day.

We are having the same problem with our 2018 Tiguan. We live in Sydney Australia, we are going to the VW dealer in a week and happy to have read this forum to know my rights. Might have a battle ahead. Class action sounds possible!
Hi DC, am also located in Sydney, have the same exact issue. Was wondering if you could share any tips on how to get it resolved via a VW dealer. Our car is out of warranty and looking for a long term fix.

Check your battery voltage, the gearbox problem was a symptom of a battery problem. I also had other issues that came up at the same time all low voltage related.

Thanks for the suggestion, my battery was on its way out since September and auto start stop had stopped working a while back, likely due to low voltage. I've now replaced the battery and reset all codes. Fingers crossed this was the issue... have a long drive coming up so will be able to confirm in a weeks time

Thanks for the feedback, glad to be of assistance if it works.
I was also having problems with Cruse control (ACC error) that problem appears to have been fixed with the new battery.

I haven't got a long run until the beginning of March so would appreciate you letting me know how you get on after your long run.

Partial update: 2 Hour 40min drive with 1 10min stop about 2 hours in. No issues yet. Fingers crossed for the drive back.
Also, my start/stop which previously wasnt working, has started to work since the battery got replaced, previously i was getting a 'high vehicle power consumption' for why the start stop didnt work.
