No charge schedule possible with 2024 ehybrid

Having spent some time with main VW agents who did not know about off peak scheduled charging and my new car and after phones calls from Germany it has been confirmed that the Tiguan ehybrid 2024 cannot be charged on a time schedule from the app or wall mounted charger. VW could not explain why this facility is no longer available. So it would seem that charging is only possible on plugging in. In order to use off peak electricity it means manually plugging in at 12.30 am!!

Sorry to hear of your troubles

Although I am not an electrician, could it be possible to have and inline timer which comes on and off at a designated time or is it based on the physical connection to the vehicle before charging takes place?

Tried with schedule facility in wall charger as well as Hive smart plug timing schedule. Both failed. In fact drained 12 v battery in case of wall charger and tripped house electrics with smart plug. It would seem that the Tiguan needs to charge immediately. If you plug in and charge comes later the car cannot cope with this .

Who are you with as an electricity supplier? I use Octopus Intelligent with my BMW hybrid and they take control from their app, the car and BMW app is simply set to immediate charge. Octopus set the charge schedule and it works from there

If you are using a 3 pin plug charger, do not use any timers, extensions etc as the current draw of about 10A is way too high for them.

That’s a shame! They have a section to leave your email address and they will contact you when they add the car to their database. Go through the enquiry and at the end there will be a message saying it’s not compatible etc.

Hi Chris, can I ask that you provide any updates you have on this matter. I've just ordered an Elegance E-Hybrid due in November and was fully expecting to be able to charge on a schedule. I'm currently with Octopus and was hoping to use their Intelligent Octopus Go tariff on a schedule and am bemused to hear that may not be possible. Whilst not yet installed, I am probably going to get an Ohme Home Pro charger as both VW and Octopus seem to recommend this product, although the 2024 Tiguan eHybrid isn't yet on Octopus' supported car list yet.
Thanks in advance, Mark

spent three hours at VW and they had really no idea but in the end concluded no scheduling within the car system. Had a phone call from WV in Germany confirming no scheduling in car. Tried Octopus intelligent and VW Tiguan not supported. Not sure if you could schedule through Ohme unit. Could not via shell recharge unit

I spoke with Octopus and they were a bit cagey as the Mk3 1.5 Tiguan eHybrid isn't yet listed, it's the Mk2 1.4 variant. I can't imagine there would be a problem but they merely said that they would add my request to the list of car's to potentially be added to their supported vehicles list. I also called the VW number you suggested but, as I don't yet have the vehicle, they weren't keen on having a theoretical conversation about a problem I haven't yet experienced, which is fair enough I suppose.

Theoretical solution if having the charger plugged into the car with no power to the charger doesn’t drain the 12v battery would be to have an electrician instal a timer between the consumer unit and the charger so that you could set that instead.
Not ideal as more expense but could work?

Thought I mentioned that in my post above and I’m not even electrical - top trade mechanical though 😂😂

I’ve got a 2024 passat ehybrid and I’ve been searching the net for an answer to the same problem. It seems there is no facility to set the car on a schedule timer: but my last car was an Octavia phev and I had no issues with the app and scheduled charging from a 3 pin plug charger!

I now have an ohme charger and the passat seems to scheule charge fine using that app, but we have 2 EVs here so sometimes I need the 3-pin as a backup. On YouTube there is a video for how to set up locations and schedules for the VW ID range, this button seems to be missing on the passat and Tiguan!!

go to 0:28 in the video to see the missing button!

I assume it could be fixed in future with a software update but it’s crazy for it to be missing!

Backward yes but it took three weeks for VW to admit you cannot schedule. Dealer had no idea! I asked if scheduling was possible to schedule a charge using their preferred Ohme charger. They said they do not support third party apps or equipment. Which I took to mean either no it cannot or they have no idea!

I have an ohme charger and app. The app is set up for my wife’s car, but plug mine in and it just charges to the pre-defined schedule in the ohme app, as long as the car is set to “charge now” so it seems I can get around the lack of scheduling issue as long as I’m using the dedicated charger.

When it comes to the 3-pin charger, it looks like you can start and stop the charging from the app, so at least I don’t have to go out to the car to tell it to start charging later on, I just have to remember to do it on the app!

I will be calling vw about this issue, if enough of us complain they will surely do something about it (if they aren’t doing so already!)

My 7kw shell charger will charge the car when you plug it in but if a schedule is set the unit switches off and the car thinks the session has finished and does not accept charge when the schedule should start. Even worse the car does not go to sleep and the 12v battery gets totally drained!!
I now we use Vw app to switch 13amp charger to start/ stop charging but still need to wake up at 12.20 am!! App does not work with wall charger
